Orono travelled to Creemore bn Friday evening to play their 2nd game in a best of five series and came away with a big win. Creemore opened the scoring catching catching the Orono boys sleeping defensively. Fifty seconds later Mike Hamel scored with assists to Greg Vey and Pau! Morton. From then on Orono never looked back scoring eleven more before it was finished. Scoring for Orono were Mike Hamël 4, Glyn Jenkins 4, Greg Vey 3, Derek Mumford 1. March 21st - Orono 7, Creemore 3 Orono played host to Creemore on Saturday evening in their best of five series. Orono scored first and the period ended in a 1-1 tie. Both teams scored à goal in the second period and went to the dressing room again with a tie game. In the third period Orono came alive outscoring Creemore 5 to 1. Geoff Green and Rick Martin handled the goal tending for Stutts, both boys having a good series. Oronb now enters All Ontario finals against Langton, south of Woodstock on March 25th at 8 p.rti., back in Orono on Friday, March 27th at 8 p.m. The third game will be March 29th in Langton. Tennant Fuel Atoms On Saturday, March 21st the Tennant Fuel O.M.H.A. Atoms played host < to the Oshawa Blackhawks for an exhibition game and came away with a 2-2 tie. The first period was scoreless with both teams playing a very close checking game. The second period saw Orono go ahead 1-0 on a goal by Brent Hutton assisted by Brian Goodwin, Brent then came right back 25 seconds later to make it 2-0 on an unassisted effort. Before the period ended Oshawa made it 2-1 on.a goal by Brent Sarginson. The third period saw both teams with some excellent scoring chances, with many close calls at both ends. Finally with 6:17 left in the game Brent Sarginson came up with his second goal of the game to give the Oshawa Blackhawks a 2-2 tie. On Sunday evening, March 22nd the Tennant Fuel Atoms travelled to Oshawa to see the Oshawa Generals play Peterborough, with the Generals coming out 5-2 winners, and a good time was had by all. The Tennant Fuel Atoms will close out their season with an exhibition game Tuesday, March 24th against Bowmanville Toros, and then play in the Pine Ridge tournament in Bowmanville on Thursday, March 26th. Orono WIN NOVICE TOURNAMENT . On Saturday, March 2lst, Fenelon Falls was the site of a Novice tournament in which Orono Tykes took part in. The players were aged from 4-8 and there was , eight teams entered. , The first game placed Orono against • Newcastle. Dave Sheridan got the first ' goal very quickly, with just 30 seconds into the game. Teddy Baker and Cameron Esler got the assists on the quick goal. Newcastle came back and tied it up, but before long, Kevin Roberts put Orono ahead again, this, one passed along by Jason Major and Craig Andrews. Newcastle Newcastle tied it up before the period washover. The only second period goal was scored by Cameron Esler, assisted by Teddy Baker and David Sheridan. Shane Jones was in goal for Orono, doing a fine job. The third period was scoreless giving Orono the win putting them on the championship side of thy tournament. The second game was against the tournament hosts, Fenelon Falls.*Scott McAllister tucked the first goal in, coming from behind the net, passed up by Kent Vanderheyden and Sean Winning. Another goal in the second period, this one by Kent Vanderheyden, was assisted by David Sheridan and Shane Jones. Kévin Roberts got things started in the third period, this time from Jason Major and Scott McAllister, before Fenelon Falls got their I.O.O.F. No ' On March 16th Orono travelled to Port Hope and came home with a 3-1 win. Scoring for Orono were Derek Henry 1, John Cowan 1, Darren Lewis 1, with as'sists Tykes only goal of the game. Strong goaltending by Craig Andrews kept them off the scoreboard, while the Orono boys added two more gfoals. Dave Sheridan hustled in to bang in Cameron Esier's rebound. Teddy Baker started the play. Kevin Roberts worked well with Jason Brachvogel Brachvogel and Jim Partner to end the game Orono 5 to Fenelon Falls 1. This put the boys into the championship game, to face Minden. Orono came out flying and banged in two unanswered goals. Kevin Roberts was hot 1 in tills game as he scored all of the goals. The first period goals by Kevin were assisted by Jim Partner, Jason Major, Scott McAllister and Jason Brachvogel. Kevin got another in the second, this one from Jason Brachvogel and Jason Major. Minden scored in the third, slipping one by David Sheridan in goal, who stopped everything else while Kevin added his fourth of the game, this time from Jim Partner and Kent Vanderheyden. The small line, physically but not in determination, determination, although not scoring, but adding to the overall strength of thé team were Greg Hooper, Jarret Prescott and Ryan Marsanis. The game ended Orono 4, Minden 1. Midgets On March 20th Orono travelled to Thornton for the first game of the semifinals. semifinals. Orono suffered a 4-0 defeat with Bob Zych outstanding in the net. Too many penalties was Orono's downfall. On March 22nd Thornton came to Orono for the second game of the series. This was a closely fought game which included a ten minute overtime period. The final score was 1-1. Scoring the goal for Orono was Scott Prescott from Kirk Carr and PaulKing. Orono won the toss for the third game and Thornton came back to Orono on March 23rd. Orono scored the first goal at" 9:05 of the second period by Steve Stec unassisted. Thornton tied the game at 7:26. Thornton went ahead with 5:59 remaining in the second period. In the third period Orono scored with 9:27 remaining, Dennis Klawitter scored unassisted. unassisted. Thornton came back to go ahead withJL'Sl remaining. With 28 seconds left and Omno's goalie on the bench, Ken Farrow tied the score from Kirk Carr and Steve Stec. This sent the game into overtime. With 12 second h» 116 in the ten minute overtime Ken Farrow scored what proved to be the winner with Steve Stec assisting. The goal held up through the remainder of the overtime, Orono winning 4-3. This ties the series at 3 points apiece with the next game in Thornton Friday night at 8 o'clock. Orono's next home game is Sunday, March 29th at 4:30 p.qi- Come out and support the team and watch some exciting hockey. Junior Hockey in Orono On Sunday, March 29th at 8:00 p.m. in the Orono Arena Community Centre Room, there will be a meeting to further discuss the possibility qf a Junior Hockey Club in Orono for the coming season. At the last meeting about twenty interested people decided unanimously to proceed with the idea. On Sunday, those present should set up a slate of officers for the hockey club, as well as directors. Now is the time to get involved, so lets have everybody interested in this team out on Sunday evening with your support.
