I'/dro plans to plant Parkview 78 acres Newcastle completed j 'Ontario Hydro and thé Ganaraska Region Conservation, Conservation, Authority are in negotiations negotiations as to planting some 78 acres of Authority land to 'trees.' Counc. E.R. Woodyard said-, Ontario Hydro had offered to thé Town of Newcastle to plynt 78 acres within the municipality to trees to offset the loss of 78 acres of trees due to their transmission lines running through the municipality. Woodyard states the Town had no location for such a planting and he had referred the proposal to the Ganaraska Conservation Authority who have holdings within the municipality. He said he understood that negotiations are now underway between the Authority and Hydro to complete the planting this year. Jim Tedford, of the Authority, Authority, states that negotiations are underway and an agreement agreement is expected in that Hydro would plant 78 acres of* Authority land this spring. Tedford said he was now cotisulting with the Ministry of Natural Resources regarding regarding the proposal. Tedford also stated that the Authority had 225 acres of land in the north-east corner of the Town of Newcastle that has not as yet been turned over to the Ministry for •management find felt this area would be suitable for planting by Ontario Hydro. Final arrangements are expected in the near future to give time for spring planting by Hydro. Hydro not only provides the trees but also plants the trees at no cost to thé municipality or Conservation Conservation Authority. The 225 acre Conservation land was purchased three years ago and known as the Parker property is located north of the eighth line of Clarke. It is a policy of Ontario , Hydro to replace forested area which have been cleared for transmission line and it is considered that 78 acreê were cleared in the Town for the line over the past two years. Consider Ball's Mill as Micro Hydro project Consideration is being given by the Ministry of Energy of Ontario in setting up four pilot Micro Hydro Demonstration projects in the province. One site under consideration for the project is the former Ball's Mill in Baltimore which is now owned by the Ganaraska Region Conservation Authority, Authority, The pilot projects are being set up to investigate the feasibility of generating hydro hydro on a small scale. The Ontario Ministry of Agriculture and Food is looking for young people who enjoy variety and outdoor work. The assignment is Agricrew. Agricrew is a three-year- old program designed to provide Ontario farmers with short-term work crews to get odd jobs done during the busy season. "There are many jobs that a farmer can't get around to doing because of the more pressing chores," says Norma Brown, of the Ontario Ministry of Agriculture and Food extension branch. "These jobs may include painting fences or barns, cleaning stalls and general maintenance work." Agricrews of four young people are posted in 20 areas of electricity and be fed into the Ontario Hydro system. The . Ball's Mill property was purchased by the Authority Authority over some ten years ago and at the time it was the intention to operate the mill as an educational project. Members of the Agricrew are paid the minimum wage of $2.45 per hour (under 18) and $3.30 per hour (over 18). Crew foremen are paid $3.50 per hour.
