Gary Herrema, chairman of the Region of Durham, has returned from Queen's Park with no extra help from the province to help offset an increase of 19 percent in Regional Police costs. Her- rema met with the Ontario Solicitor's department at the request of Regional council following their budget discussions discussions last week. Council withheld final approval of their budget until they had heard from the Province. The, Regional Police budget for 1981 is $2.5 million over that of 1980, a 19 percent increase. The chairman also said that council might be forced to cut back on the police budget so that property owners do not face a large increase in taxation.
