The Board has budgeted for a total expenditure expenditure of $47,819 million compared to $44,286 million in 1980. Of the total budget local taxpayers within the jurisdiction jurisdiction of the Board will raise $17,266 milliqn, 36.1 percent of the total. The Province of Ontario will grant an amount of $29,497 million, 61.6 percent with the remainder of 2.2 percent, $1.6 million coming from other sources. There are sixteen municipalities municipalities within the Boards jurisdiction with the Town of Newcastle representing almost almost one-third of the total local allocation of $17,266 million. From the total budget the largest expenditure falls in the cost of instructions, 70.74 percent or $33,825 million. Plant operation consumes 9.36 percent of the budget or $4,475 million. Transportation will cost the Board $3,446 million in 1981, 7.21 percent of the budget. Debt charges consumes 4.42 percent of the Budget, $2,111 million. Finance chairman, £>r. Ian Wilson said the board had operated under adverse conditions conditions in 1980 due to inflation and the cost of the asbestos problem in the Bowmanville High School. Eyen with government help the asbestos problem cost the Board $260,000 in 1980. Rising unemployment insurance insurance premiums will cost the Board an extra $123,000 in '80 and rising energy costs will add another $90,000. Increasing short term interest interest charges add a further $50,000 bringing the total interest costs to $300,000.
