Orono Weekly Times, "Wednesday May 27, 1981-5' Could create reserve for Home for Aged In speaking with Diane Hamre, Regional Councillor, Ward Three, who has been promoting a new Home for the Aged to be bull in the Town of Newcasstle she points out even if the Home were approved by the Region and the Province, completion would be some four to five years in the future. A proposal which has passed passed the Social Services committee committee and recently came before Regional council has been sent to the Regional Finance committee for their consideration. At council meeting chairman of finance questioned if the region was up for such a proposal due to interest costs and debentures- debentures- Counc. Harare states that if the proposal was given approval approval at this time the new home would not be built for four , or five years and it would be possible daring this time to build up a reserve for the project. The project has been estimated to cost over $6 million. It has been pointed out during discussions that there is now a waiting list of close to five hundred from the Region wanting admittance to such, facilities. Harare has stated there is a need and that the new Home should be built in the Newcaste area, close to Oshawa where the greatest need exists.
