memm VOLUNTEERS LOG 11,010 HOURS 1,059 Volunteer Community Care workers in Durham Regiôna during the first three months have logges 11,010 hours of free labour to 2,119 elderly residents of the area. During this period the volunteers travelled 56,287 miles in providing their help. It was pointed out at the Regiona Social Services committee that at minimum wage this help would have cost the Region almost $40,000. WOULD ALLOW COMMERCIAL DEVELOPMENT The Town of Newcastle council has given two readings to a by-law amending a former Township of Clarke by-law that will allow commercial development in the Kirby area. The third reading of the by-law is tabled until such time as council has been successful in repealing a heritage designation designation on the lands.
