Brooklin development comes before council Durham Regional council will also be considering the controversial Brooklin development this week at their regular session. The plan -has gained approval approval from the finance department of the Region while on the other hand the planning Separtment has spoke out against the plan which they claim will cost the Region millions of dollars. The head of the planning department has suggested that the homes to house over 10,000 people will never be built under the present economic conditions and thus the pian will become a liability to the Region. He suggests that the/ developer will have the same problems to sell housing in Durham as are other developers. Bullet-proof vest for Durham police Durham Regional Police by this fall may be wearing bullet-proof vests purchased under agreement through a scheme with the province. A comment was made bÿ Chief Jon Jenkins last week following a commission meeting that Regional Police may have the vests this fall. It was pointed out that some Regional Police now ear their own bullet-proof vests. At the present time the Ontario Ontario government is prepared to pay half the cost of bullet- .proof vests under a central purchasing policy. The province province is expected to call tenders for 10,000 such vests in the near future. Jenkins said he woald expects expects that Durham would have theirs by this fall.
