4-Orono Weekly Times, Wednesday July 15, 1981 Orono boy receives second degree burns Brian Schoenmaker, Orono, received burns and some second degree burns to his right arm and right leg on Thursday of last week while working at the Orono Park. At the time of the accident , Schoenmaker was cutting grass on a riding lawnmower at the park. He became aware of the smell of gasoline and before he could vacate the machine, the gas had ignited inflicting butns to his right leg and arm. Brian emerged himself in the creek where he awaited the arrival of the ambulance ambulance from Bowmanville. After treatment at Memorial Hospital, Brian returned home and is now recovering most satisfactorily from the burns. It was his second second day of work at the Orono park. They report a fine week with perfect holiday weather. ' Mrs. Elinore Foster went down-to Welcome on Sunday to visit her daughter Carol. She arrived at the same time her nephew and grandson came from the airport. Scott Byers and Glen Foster had just returned from Calgary where they had attended the Scout Jamboree. They happened happened to be two of the three scouts, interviewed on television. television. The third lad lived near Port Hope also. They had a wonderful trip. Mrs. Carl Langstaff is in the Toronto Hospital. We hope she will soon be home again. Mr. Fred Winn and Mr. Garland Cathcart visited Mrs. Edna Winn in Orillia Hospital on Tuesday. Mrs. Julia Jackson has been mpv- ed to a Toronto Hospital for tests. The Kendal Eagles over the past week traded wins with Cobourg in a game played ih Cobourg on July 7th and a game in Kendal on Saturday. In Cobourg on July 7th, the Cobourg entry edged out a 7-6 win over the Eagles after the Eagles held a slight lead in the opening innings. In the first Kendal went out in front with two runs with a walk to J. Robinson, a hit by G. Cox and R. Kennedy. • Cobourg scored single runs in the second and third to tie the score at the end of the third at 2-2. The Eagles then edged ahead in the fifth on a number of walks and a wild pitch allowing them to score one run. In the sixth frame, a couple of Kendal errors allowed ' Cobourg to score two then putting Cobourg ahead of Kendal 4-3. Although the Eagles were able to add two . runs in the top of the seventh, the Cobourg squad scored three on some solid hitting. Kendal scored one in the eighth on a home run drive by S. West. B. Bickell was the losing pitcher. In the second game with Cobourg in Kendal on Saturday, Saturday, the tables were turned and Kendal came out in front in a high scoring game 17-9. J. Although Port Hope openr éd the scoring in the first inn-: ing with er single run, the Eagles were able to take over in the third with four counters and to add three in the fifth, four in the sixth and one each in the seventh and eighth.
