Employment preparation at Clarke High School An Employment Preparation Preparation Seminar is being held at Clarke High School shortly a fter the opening of the new school term to better prepare students for entering the work world as part of their o-operative Education pro- guim. The seminar -is being " e| d on Wednesday, September 9th, both morning and afternoon. Students entering the the Co-çp program are expected to attend and as well the general public is invited. The morning session opens at 9:00 a.m. with the afternoon session session opening at 12:50 p.m. During the sessions career awareness, job responsibility and employer-employee relationships relationships will be featured. Marlene Veater of Bell Canada, Mr. Charles Byers, employment' counsellor for Canada Employment Centre and Ms. Jan, Cochrane of Welcome girl wins judging competition ■ WELCOME GIRL WINS JUDGING COMPETITION: COMPETITION: Krista McHolm, daugher of Mr. & Mrs. Roy . McHolm, Welcome, was the . winner of the Junior Section at the annual Class "A" Judging Day held at Peterborough Peterborough Exhibition on August 13th. Krista topped 129 contestants contestants in the Junior section. A number of other Durham 4-H'ers did very well in the competition. In the Junior Section, Lynn McLaughlin of Nestleton, tied for 2nd. Dave Brown of Newcastle was 4th; Ralph Dç Jong of Nestleton tied for 12th and Brent McLaughlin of Nestleton and Brian VanCamp of Blackstock tied for 16th. Bruce Brown of Newcastle placed second in a group of . 87 Senior 4-H'ers at the , Peterborough Judging Day. The Senior winner was John ' Curie of Northumberland County. One thing that does intrigue intrigue us about the west is the weather. You bake in the sun at 29 to 30 degrees but find a little shade and it is cool. The lack of humidity makes a big difference and although the days temperature reached upwards upwards of 30, the evenings were cool. We have been asked on a . couple of occasions since returning if we ran into any animosity against the east. To be honest, our contacts were limited and those we did make generally turned out to be transplants from the east. One neighbour came from the Cornwall area while the other and his wife being native Albertans had other things 'on their mind with a family of eleven kids and a budding group of grandchildren grandchildren popping up one after the other. Politics was the least of their worries.
