Friday also features dairy cattle ahd sheep. : SATURDAY EVENTS Light and heavy horses as well as beef cattle take to the show ring on Saturday afternoon afternoon while the popular poultry and rabbit show continue continue to take their place in the fair. , Included Saturday will be Ed Eastman and the Terra Nova Express who will perform perform in the afternoon and as well play for the dance in the evening. Also included for Saturday evening is the Castrol Dare Devils who are to provide autmotive fury on the track in front of the grandstand. SUNDAY PROGRAM The fair concludes on sun- day with the promotion of ' harness racing, a Country and Western Jamboree, a Pigeon Show and a Hunter ând Jumpers competition. Throughout the three and half days of the fair the Fund Raising committee for the local arena will be providing meals in the community centre centre room. in all the local Durham Central Agricultural Fair being being staged in Orono has a great number of features which makes the fair in Orono the toast of all fair in this part of the province. • Come and enjoy and outing with friends at Orono this week-end. Ganaraska opens new ski trails In speaking with secretary- manager, Doug Palmer, of the Ganaraska Region Conservation Conservation Authority he points out that it will be business as usual at the Forest Centre this v inter as to winter recreation and skiing. He did state that some new trails had been developed over the summer and final preparations were being undertaken to allow a greater degree of trail grooming this 1 winter. Palmer points out that some 18 kilometers of' new trails have been developed on what is known as the Parker property in the Ganaraska. This property is north of the* Oshawa Ski Hill on the eighth line. This will be used- as overflow skiing from the Forest Centre when it becomes over-crowded.. There also has been some new development of trails in the area of the Forest Centre with now a total of 35 kilometers in that area. Existing trails have been improved in order that snow grooming may be carried out which has also required the removal of some tree stumps. Another great improvement improvement at the Forest Centre is a re-arrangement of entering the trails just north of the centre. Skiers will now travel east to cross the stream rather than plunging down into the creek area at the north-west corner of the Forest Centre. There has also been some changes and an extension of the Orange trail which is a ■ popular trail for the more experienced experienced skier. Palmer said that the trails are now more •isüited for the average or novice skier. The secretary-manager states that the Chalet ai the forest Centre will operate as last year and arrangements have already been made for its operation. The Authority expects to . continue hext year with further further improvements to ' the trails when a bulldozer would be available for such work. Orono DBIA plan > a 'Ghostly' event The executive of the Orono Downtown Businessmen's Assodationhdd a meeting last week at which time they tentatively scheduled what could be called a Ghostly Event. The event is to be held in the ddwntown business area late in October. It is to be held to celebrate the work that should then be completed along the mam street. Prior to any 'further arrangements arrangements for the event the Association has called a meeting of the local businessmen to discuss the. proposal. The Ghostly event would possibly consist of a dixieland band, entertainment by school groups and as well costumes for costumes. The Association also, gave permission to have the garbage garbage receptacles painted yellow and green.
