REGIONAL PLANNERS DUB NEWTONVILLE DOUBLING.IN DOUBLING.IN SIZE Regional planners have condemned a Town of Newcastle plan that would double the size of the community. It has said the development Would take place on poorly drained clay soil which had previously been designated as a non-developable area. Regional planners did say they favoured a plan that had first been submitted by the Town calling for infilling to the amount of 29 homes in the 120 home community. The Town of Newcastle planning staff had recommended the slow growth plan for Newto'nville but were over-ruled by the 1979-80 council who called for the farger development. M&M WIN BOWMANVILLE TOURNAMENT The Ortipo M&M Slow Pitch ball team over the past weekend weekend won aj ten-team tournament held in Bowmanville. CHRISTIAN HIGH SCHOOL TO PAY OFF MORTGAGE The Durham Christian High School in Bowmanville expects to pay off their mortgage of $300,000 on the school on the first of October, 1981. As of the beginning of this week the School community had raised a total of $1291, D0Q through numerous fund raising events which were started earlier this spring. On Tuesday at noon students at the school added a further $9,100.00 -to the fund and come Thursday, October 1 st. the school is expected to see the end of their $300,000, mortgage. The single committee system will be on a trail basis for a period of three months when the change will be reviewed by council members. Most council members approve approve of the change-over looking for a. more streamline streamline system in which council operates. There are however some reservations which will be considered after the three month period. Up to this point council has operated with five corii- miltees, public works, planning, planning, social services, finance and hydro liaison. The hydro liaison committee will remain in tack as in the past but the other four will be scrapped for the general purpose com- mittee. Hamre said she has talked with other municipal , councillors who operate the one-committee system and they have said such a system works well. Orono team takes Slow Pitch title The New Dutch Overi Slow Pitch ball team reTurned from a tournament held September 19 and 20th in Côllingwpod with the Ontario Championship Championship trophy for Class 'D'slow Pitch. Thp local Orono ■ team competed in the competition with 36, other teams from across Ontario with the farest coming from Sudbury, Ontario. Ontario. The New Dutch Oven Team played a total of six games in the two-day tournament tournament coming up with six wins. They defeated Dresdart, ■ 12-1, Unioriville, 6-2; Wood- bridge, 18-4; Barrie 4-3 in extra extra innings; Oshawa, 17-5 , and in the final game of the championship defeated Wasago Beach by a score of .■17-1. Throughout the six 1 games the New Dutch Oven team scored a total of 67 runs while allowing only 15 runs. . .All players contributed to the teams victories coming up with clutch hits and sparkling fielding. Bob O'Neil, pitching pitching for the local team was voted the Most Valuable player of the tournament. Leskard rezoning back to Town staff Monday night the planning committee of the Town of Newcastle referred a rezoning application back to staff when it. was indicated that a workshop which staff had proposped .to be taken down before the application was approved had existed in Leskard for seventy-five or à hundred years in its present location. Denis and Della Prue have aske'd for a rezoning from agriculture to Rural Residential Residential for a home they have purchased'in purchased'in the hamlet. From the report to council the home was built in 1974 without building permit. * The Prues, having purchas ed the house wish to have it properly rezoned. Planning staff have recommended recommended that the building meet lift Ontario Building Code and that a engineer submit submit a report as to the condition condition in regards the code. Also staff recommend that the Prues pay the $1500.00 lot levy to the Town* and that a workshop in the flood plain be removed.
