Orono Hamlet summer 1982 < Fred Archibald of the Town of Newcastle Planning department meet with the Orono DBIA group on Monday Monday evening with discussion centering around a proposed ' draft of a Development Plan for the Hamlet of Orono, Archibald pointed out that the proposéd draft was a staff proposal and further pointed out that public meetings as to the proposal would not likely be held until sometime in the summer of 1982. The proposed draft showed showed residential development in two proposals north-west of the downtown core area, west of Main Street. It was pointed out that Orono would not be slated for a great deal of development but over twenty years increase could be in the area of an additional additional two hundred homes. Lot size would be of a proposed proposed acre and it was not anticipated anticipated that a sewage system would ever come to Orono due to cost and distance from the lake. Development would also be dependent on capacity capacity of the well for an adequate water supply but Archibald did believe that the present supply would accommodate a further 200 homes. The Orono DBIA showed some concern as to the designation of the commercial commercial area arid felt that the present present commercial area should be extended south on the west side of Main Street to Station Street at least. Further discussions are to take place with the local DBIA prior to the setting forth of the plan.
