Harare has asked that the Town of Newcastle petition the Region of Durham to reduce the" speed limit on Main Street from Somerville to Highway 115-35 be reduced from the present 80 kmh. to 60 kmh. She points out that it is only a short distance and that speed has to be reduced at the intersection at the highways. Suggests more full-time firefighters for Town A report by the Public Institutions Institutions Inspection Panel of Durham Region has recbmended that consideration consideration be given by the Town of Newcastle in adding to the number of full-time firefighters to serve the municipality. The Inspection Panel recently appointed by County Court Judge Donald Lawson of Whitby toured the Bowman ville Fire Station prior to their report. The Town of Newcastle now has, three full-time firefighters all stationed at the Bowmanville Hall. According to Jim Hayman, fire-chief the report was a welcomed one. He points , out in a new story that the Town does have three fulltime firefighters and 68 volunteers stationed throughout the Town at Courtice, Bowmanville, Newcastle and Orono.
