Orono Christmas party Saturday Town to cover salt at Orono This Saturday, December 19th, a Christmas party, including including hay rides and program. program. along with the arrival of Santa has been arranged by the Great Pine Ridge Kinsmen and the Orono Downtown Businessmen's Association. The . event is open- to all with the program and arrival of Santa being held in the Orono Town Hall. Starting at 1:00 p.m. hay rides will be the order of the day and will continue until at least 2:00 p.m. Those wanting wanting to take part in the hay rides out into the Orono Tree Nursery will be able to catch the wagons at the Orono Town Hall. The program at the Town Hall is to start at 2:00 p.m. and will include some local talent and a magician to perform perform his acts of magic for the children. At 3:00 p.m. Santa will arrive., to greet the children and to pass out bags of candy. The Christmas Party and the arrival of Santa concludes the week-long promotion in Orono of the Art and Craft Sale and. promotions in Orono by individual business enterprises! Orono youths were seriously injured Saturday when .their car struck a tree off Providence Road east of BoWman- ville. Richard Bruce, 18, of Rowe St., Orono was listed in satisfactory condition in Oshawa General Hospital on Sunday : while Kevin Talsma, Church St., Orono, was listed in critical condition in Sunnybrook Hospital. Police report the car was found containing the two youths at about 7:30 aim. Saturday. It was not known on Tuesday at what time the accident happened but police suspect it had happened happened sometime between midnight on Friday and early Saturday Saturday morning. Staff is to prepare a report for, council or the General Purpose Committee and the Mayor has been authorized to call a, special meeting of either group when the report is ready with costs. Don Smith, Town Ad-' ministrator informed the council that he had discussed , the matter with the deputy director , public works and recommended that the Town either rent or purchase a * trapualin to cover the present salt' pile".-. He said the tarpaulin could be used in other locations in the future. He also informed council that there was no subsidy for the salt dome. As to a central storage area for sand and salt he said it was just not viable. He said it may be feasible for some centralization but that in any event stock piles would still 'be kept in depots around the Town. He also said that in speaking speaking with the Region they said it would be better to keep the Public works descentralized. , Smith said he would reply to the ministry of the environment environment on just what the Town was doing in this mat-. There are over- twenty local artists and craft persons taking part in the venture promoted by the Orono Downtown Businessmen. The range of items for sale is quite extensive from paintings paintings to handcrafts, needle poiijt, stuffed toys, wooden toys, prochet, etc. etc. Pomsettas are also on sale at the> show. in connection with the weeks promotion is a free draw sponsored by the Orono Businessmen. The draw will be made Saturday afternoon and includes three certificates of value of $25.00, $15.00 and $10.0q. Free entry -forms for the draw are at all Orono downtown enterprises and these may lje signed and entered at the respective stores. Jasper Holliday, a former member of council, addressed addressed council on Monday as spokesman for 302 petitioners petitioners calling for council to support three recommendations recommendations from the group. Town Hall packed full of HEAD-ON COLLISION KILLS PONTYPOOL MAN Wayne Douglas Gardner, 29, of Pontypool was killed Sunday Sunday afternoon in a head-on collision one kilometer south of Kirby on Highway 115. He was the sole occupant in the car he was driving. Claude Camein, Don Mills and two occupants of his car were treated for minor injuries at Memorial Hospital in Bowman ville.
