RETIRES AS HEAD OF POULTRY SHOW Len Pears has informed the Durham Central Agricultural Society that he will not be heading-up the Annual Poultry Show at the Orono Fair. He has resigned as Chairman of the lepartment. Pears has built the Orono Fair Poultry Show into the best in he District and is one of the top shows'in the province. Pears vith his expertise in poultry breeding and showing and his con- îection within the poultry faternity has resulted in the first ;lass show in Orono. Scholastic Trust to benefit Clarke peared on stage at the Kinettes Pub Night Saturday Saturday in his drive and challenge to help find a cure for the genetic disease of Cystic Fibrosis. Kevin, a most talented singer, is working hand in hand with Kinsmen and Kinettes in a dream to find a disease which Kevin, himself, is afflicted. He is a stiring entertainer in song and provides his own guitar accompaniment. As well Kevin is a song writer. He expects to appear on the To-Night Show and as well expects to be part of a 1 by NBC television. He is the "Terry Fox" of Cystic Fibrosis. All revenue from a record by Kevin is donated to Cystic Fibrosis. A pleasure to have been present present to hear this young man. The Executors and Trustees of the last will and testament of Clara Alfrena Waddell, formerly of Qrono, have been directed through the conditions of the will to set up a trust fund to be known as "The Ruddock and Rena Waddell Scholastic Trust." The sole purpose of the funds will be for the purpose purpose of advancing. higher education in all fields to a certain number of selected students graduating from Clarke High School in each year for a twenty-five year period. According to Kay Lycett, executor, the amount to be invested in the Trust fund will be substantial and will be used used in keeping with Mrs. Waddell's wish to assist graduating students in their first year of higher education following their graudation. The funds of "The Ruddock Ruddock and Rena Waddell Scholastic Trust" are t& be invested with Victoria and Grey Trust Company or any other legally accredited Trust Company. The total income from the investment, less ex penses or compensation are to be used for the sole purpose purpose of advancing higher education in all fields of education to a certain number of selected students graduating from Clarke High School in each year of payment. payment. The choice will be made by a committee composed of the Principal, headmaster or Mistress of the school and six members of his or her teaching staff of his or her chosing. The committee shall also determine the number of (Continued page 3) Plydesign enjoy great response at Toronto Furniture Show Asking Town for Orono parking study The Orono DBIA at asil meeting last Thursday evening evening gave support in that the Town of Newcastle be requested requested to undertake a parking parking study in the main business area jin Orono. The Orono group also requested'that the Town continue to enforce the parking regulations until such time as the parking study is; completed. At the present time there is no enforcement of parking regulations in the Village. Town council has not renew- » ed a contract with a private company who were providing enforcement. The .contract ran out at the end of 1982. In this matter Town staff had estimated it was to cost $12,000 to renew the contract for 1983 for both the Village of Orono and the Village of * Newcastle. Staff are now ob- j tabling further proposals. The request to the Town for a parking study 1 came as a result of another outburst of discussion last Tuesday night over parking - in the downtown area of Orono. Included 1 in the submission submission was monies for renovations to the back portion of the Oroho Armouries as requested by the Orono DBIA. ONTO THE WORLD'S IN '84 The Orono Figure Skating Club is organizing a trip to the World's Figure Skating Championship competitions to be held in Ottawa in March 1984. Already a good number have signed up for the trip which includes transportation to and from Ottawa, Ottawa, accommodation and admission to the championships. In speaking with. Ted Samuel of Plydesigns in Orono he said the furniture market had improved considerably considerably and the recent furniture furniture show in Toronto was a sucçess foi* all exhibitors.
