Our guest speaker for the evening was Mr. Bob Gleson, who spoke on "Family Life" programs which is now being implemented implemented in grades 1-3. , A card party was held on Thursday, January 27th in the parish hall. There was not a good turnout. Results were: High lady - Marg Gorman, Low lady - Mrs. Moffat. , High man - Alvin Yeo, Low man - Mr. Moffat. Door Prizd Ray Brown. Ndxt card party will be on Thursday, February 24th in the Parish Hall. Keep that date free and plan to attend. Our Parish winter picnic will be held on Sunday, February 6, at 1:00 p.m. at the Brownsdale Hall and Golf Course. Come and have fun with your family and fellow parishioners. A large crowd attended an Appreciation Night for Rod Stork ànd his family last Saturday evening in the Orono Community Centre. Rod has accepted the position as Agricultural Representative in Welland following a number of years working out of the office of the Department of Agriculture and Food in Bowman ville. Junior Farmers and 4-H groups provided a number of skits on Saturday night to the enjoyment of those in attendance and especially so when the take-off was on the former assistant at Bowman ville. The evening was concluded concluded with dancing and lunch. The Storks have certainly certainly earned the respect of the farming community in the area. They were wished well through many presentations during the evening in their new challenges in Welland. An informal survey among local social workers showed that a majority prefer to form a local branch, and the Durham Region Branch (Provisional) (Provisional) of Ontario Association Association of Professional Social Workers has formed. A Steering Committee (Provincial) (Provincial) for the Durham Branch is composed of local social work professionals. The committee committee plans several significant significant activities for 1983. Planning is underway for an inaugural meeting in April, open to all Durham Social Workers interested in affiliating with the Durham Branch. The meeting will provide an overview of Branch activities for 1983, provide an opportunity for area, social workers to meet as a group and address common interests and identify current social work concerns regarding regarding f)urham social problems. problems. Interested workers should contact Membership Chairman, Chairman, Colleen FitzGerald at Group of Seven showing at McLaughlin Gallery Lawren Harris Drawings: Seventy-five drawings by this member, of the Group of Seven will be on view at the Robert McLaughlin Gallery, Oshawa, from 1 to 22 February 1983. The exhibition, exhibition, organized by the Robert McLaughlin Gallery, in conjunction conjunction with the Mira Godard Gallery, Toronto, is being circulated nationally over the next two years. Several of the drawings are preparatory to well-known paintings. Joan Murray, the director of the gallery, and editor and journalist Robert Fulford prepared the book The Beginning of Vision: Lawren S. Harris which serves as the exhibition catalogue. Harris was a devotee of the pencil sketch as a "beginning of vision," and over the years he amassed a collection which traced his development as surely as any diary. These drawings follow his career from the early days in Toronto, Toronto, through the exhilaration of sketching trips to Lake Superior and The Rocky Mountains to the cool objectively objectively and pure form of his later abstractibns.
