Orono Scouts and First Aid The Orono Boy Scouts are now in the midst of taking Emergency First Aid with the first part of the course starting last Monday in the Orono Town Hall at their Regular meeting. Around the Region Appoint New Concert Master The Oshawa Symphony Orchestra has appointed a new concert master. Twenty- three year old Janice Bing-Wo of Toronto has received the appointment and replaces Anthony Flint who has joined the Mississauga Symphony. The Oshawa Symphony has four concerts remaining for the season being played on February 1, March 8, April 12 and May 17. 'The concerts are held at Eastdale • Collegiate, Collegiate, Oshawa. More Young Men Attending A greater interest is being shown by young men in Durham Region as to family planning clinic being held in Oshawa. Males, who generally attend the course with their partners, now number one in every fourteen attending. Public Health Nurse, Linda Henry, states young men attending the free clinics are concerned in the most part about the side effects various birth control methods inay have on their partners. Employees Give $26,00 Employees of the Durham Region actively actively supported the United Way Campaign this year with an increase in givings by 38 percent. percent. The employees donated a total of $26,000. Bullet Hits School Sometime over the weekend a bullet entered a window of the Kedron Public School, north Oshawa, and pierced a metal door frame. Damage has been estimated at $50.00 A similar incident has also 1 been reported with a bullet being fired through a garage door and then breaking a windshield on a boat stored in the garage. Police are investigating both incidents but have no clues for either case. No Hydrants For Enniskillen Development The Durham Region council has passed a resolution deleting the installation of fire hydrants for a new sub-division in Enniskillen. Enniskillen. 'The deletion of the hydrants allows for smaller water mains to be installed. The sub-division does require water storage for fire fighting purposes. Durham Budget End of April It has been announced that it may be April 27 before the Region jof Durham can set its 1983 financial budget. Mayor Rickard has said he finds difficulty difficulty in holding off the setting of the budget this late.. Provincial grants are not expected to be announced for the Region until later this month. Bowmanville Revitalization Hopeful By May The Bowmanville DBIA is hopeful of having their revitalization work in the Bowmanville downtown completed by May of this year in order that the plan completion completion can coincide with the 125th Anniversary Anniversary of the Town. Tenders for work on the parking lots are expected to be called in the near future as well as tenders for associated landscaping. To improve Water Fowl Habitat Ducks Unlimited (Canàda), through, the Ministry of Natural Resources, Lindsay District, is proposing a project to improve improve area waterfowl habitat. The proposal involves' construction construction of an earth fill dyke across the outlet stream of a wetland area on Ministry property property at the north tip of Scugog Island. The dyke will be constructed on top of an old, existing roadbed for the purpose of water control. This will improve the capability of the wetland as waterfowl habitat, and will improve access to the Crown Land hunting area on the west side of the wetland. Water control will be accomplished accomplished with a six food diameter vertical intake culvert leading to a 4 *A foot diameter culvert under the dyke.
