On Saturday, March 5th both our Tyke teams travelled travelled to Çannington for a Novice B Tournament. Team No. 1 and Team No. 2 had to square off against one another in their very first game. The game was unbelievable for Tyke Hockey as the fans* and other players watched how these two teams can skate and play the game. Stephen Stadelman scored the only goal of the game in the second period to win the game for Orono , No. 2. Orono No. 1 just could not get a direct shot on, net through the whole game due to a combination of bad luck and good defensive play by Orono No. 2. This placed Orono .No. 2 in either the A and'B Championship Round. Orono No. 1 would go into C or,'D Championship Round. Chad Maartense played an exceptional game in goal for Team No. 1. John Buttegieg got the shut out for Team No. 2. Orono Tyke No* 1 take "C" championship at Cannington In the second game for Orono No. 1 Chad Maartense started things off by scoring in the first period assisted by Branden Ovenden and Chris Yeo. ChristopTier Yeo arid his teatii mates were not finished yet as Chris scored the las£ goal of the gamp from Jay Hansen and Daryl Reid to win 4-0. This win enabled Oron'o to play for - the C Championship against Oakwood. Well, here we go again, after a long day at the Arena they weren't finished yet. The boys had to play one more game and this one was for the C Championship. The first period saw lots of exciting action action at both ends with the Oakwood team having two ' breakaways but stopped both times by goalie Chad' Maartense who played just like Tretiak did for the Russians. Russians. Orono had lots of scoring scoring chances but couldn't put it in until Christopher Yeo beat the Oakwood'goaltender on a fine effort from Brandon Brandon Ovetnden and Jay Hansen to lead 1-0. 'But this Oakwood team was not to be denied as they could skate as '* well and it finally paid off for them as they tied it up at 1 a piece in the second period, ■fhe fans from both teams were just going crazy" from excitement as both teams kept going end to end as they thought we were headed for a sudden death period* but Christopher Yeo had a different different idea and scored the winning goal with just 58 seconds remaining in the game from Brian Good and J.P. Tousignant. It was a great Way to finish the day, as all the boys were just mentally mentally and physically tired. I do believe the parents of all the boys have a. few more grey hairs after this game and their nerves were just to the brink of being shot but I'll bet you will see them again at our 'next tourney with just as much enthusiasm as they showed ip the past and thank ydu for your support.
