Sunday afternoon the New Dutch Oven Novice again took to the ice but this time they faced the mothers who were out in force to take on their sons. During the past winter season the boys have had great support from the mothers in games played all over the country side. Who won?, who knows. Maple Syrup Day at the Ganaraska Forest Centre On Saturday, March 26th, the Ganaraska Region Conservation Conservation Authority will be offering the First of it's Spring Spring Special Events. The public is invited to join us in welcoming this season by par-, ticipating in Maple Syrup Day at the Ganaraska Forest Centre. Tours of the sugar bush will commence at 10:00 a.m. and proceed until all involved have had the opportunity to view the maple bush and evaporating facilities (ap proximately 1:00 p.m.). The content of the tour will be aimed at all age levels and we encourage people to make this a family outing. This event will be free to the general public. In addition, pancakes and maple syrup Orono novice team has busy week-end, home-away The Orono Novice team started the weekend with home and away games ggainst a strong Bowman ville Tçros, by losing 5 to 0 in Orono Friday evening and 9 to-0 at Darlington Arena on Saturday morning. On Sunday, March 2®, the team travelled to Lindsay to compete in their eight team Novice, tournament. In the first game against the host Lindsay team, Orono jumped into a two goal first period lead when Brent Gales scored from Scott McAllister and Shane Jdnes, followed by a Jimmy Partner goal assisted by Cameron Esler and Ryan Rock. Lindsay scored tp start the second period but Orono got that back immediately, when Dustin Reid picked the* top corner with help from Ryan Marsanis and Scott Williams. Twd goals by Lindsay Lindsay ended the second period in a three-three tie. Greg Hooper and Bradley Minnis set up a big goal by Cameron Esler that stood tip until, with less then four minutes re- maSning, Lindsay scored to send the game into sudden death overtime. The overtime which required required each team to remove one skater at minute intervals was played evenly until Cameron Esler was given a questionable tripping penalty, penalty, forcing Orono to play one skater against two. First Orono Juveniles end successful season Dustin Reid and then Jimmy Partner more then held their own against two Lindsay players. The game ended on a sour note when Jimmy was hauled down and tied up at center ice allowing the second Lindsay skater to walk in all alone. Jarrot Prescott slid out of his net to make a brilliant , stop on the breakaway but •couldn't recover in time to stop the Lindsay player from putting the loose puck into the empty net for the game winner, 5 to 4. In their second game the Qrono players showed a lot of class by bouncing back with an impressive 7 to 1 victory victory over Uxbridge and in doing doing so played one of their best "total team effort" games of thfr season. Leading the way for Orono were Cameron Esler and Brent Gates witli two goals each. Singles went Orono Juveniles travelled to Thornton on March 18th for the fifth game of the semi-finals. Orono lost the contest 6-2. Orono played a spirited game minus five of, their regular players... Irono's first goal was --ored by Ted Oster from Scott Prescott and Steve Graham. The last goal was scored by Steve Stec from Scott Prescott. This ends a very successful season of entertaining hockey. Orono playing another strong game could have made the score close but missed on three straight breakaways. In the third period three Orono penalties followed by three Cobourg goals broke the game wide open. Dustin Reid scored again late in the third period assisted by Ryan Marsanis and Jimmy Partner to make the final score - Cobourg 6, Orono 2. On March 15 Camsport Atoms travelled to Omemee to be defeated 2-1. The first period remained scoreless with lots of end to end action. Omemee's Robbie Robbie Winkler scored unassisted at 7:03 mark of the second. Robbie Winkler scored assisted by Greg Montgomery. Montgomery. Jeff,Devolin scored at 6:13 mark third unassisted. On March 18th Orono hosted Manvers to be defeated 1-0. The first and second second period remained scoreless. Orono having lots of scoring chances but just couldn't get the puck in the net. Robert Bailey scored assisted by Jodi Malcolm and Kirk Pearce for Manvers. On Sunday, March 20, Kinsmen Bantams win division ' Kinsmen Bantoms won their division defeating Fenelon Falls, and now move on to* the Northern Division meeting Lakefield. On Sunday, March 11, Orono travelled to Lakefield to be defeated 7-1. On March 18th Orono hosted Lakefield defeating them 5-4. Lakefield opened the scoring. scoring. Then John Cowan assisted by Brian Souch and Tim Mercer to tie the first period. Orono dominated the second period. Mark Sargeant assisted by Robert Snock and Steve Lycett. Steve Lycett scored assisted by Robert Snock. Robert Snock scroed unassisted early in the third. Lakefield scored. John Cowan scored assisted by Rob Jerome and Derek Anderson which was the winning winning goal. Orono seemed to let up and Lakefield scored two quick goals.
