During the budget debate the board, by a narrow margin, eliminated co-op busing from the budget. It is feared that this action will have an adverse effect on the Cp-op. program at Clarke High School where most students in the program do require busing to attend their out-of-school education in the work world. Parents have been busy the past week phoning those affected affected and asking that parents give moral support to the bid to have Co-op busing financing re-instated in the budget . Two buses have been hired in order than area parents may attend the Board meeting and will leave the* Clarke High School this Thursday evening at 6:15 p.m. It has been pointed out that students at Clarke can get nowhere without busing BLOSSOM TOUR THIS WEEK-END The apple blossom tour that was to be held lâst weekend weekend did not materialize due to weather conditions and the fact that blossom in the area did not burst forth due to the colder weather. It has also been said that pooling rides with students driving is not an answer that is desirable. Parents also point to the fact that the. Co-op program does keep students in school and that this year at least eleven, students at Clarke would not be attending if the Co-op program had to be dropped. It is reasoned that the grant on these eleven students alone is such that would almost meet the busing costs. Mr. Dennis Schmiegelow, Newcastle, is making the presentation for the local parents at the Board meeting Thursday evening. Consideration has been given for a tier bus service .which if implemented would have a savings in transportation transportation costs. Such a system would, however, have the High School open for classes at eight in the morning and completing classes at two- thirty. Under the-tier system buses would first pick-up secondary students and then return to pick up elementary students who would start school at the normal hour of,nine o'clcok. Trustee W. H. Carman stated that the board has, at times, considered this system of busing and that there was considerable savings in transportation costs with such a system. He further said that the board has always considered that the tier system would not be accepted. 1 The local group of parents organizing the delegation to the Board meeting on Thursday Thursday seek your assistance and support. , ; Larry Long, a scout from Uiq State of Pennsylvania, Pennsylvania, and Randy Cowan team up for an exchan exchan ge f cists bet ween scouts from the Slates and- those from the' West, Durham area.
