In 1978 the Review Panel concluded at the Lakeshore Road, 658 acre site directly north of the Port Granby site was not acceptable for a refinery and in the absence of the refinery should not be used used solely for waste storage. The decision was based partly on the fact that the area has a long-term potential as an agriculture area and that such an area should be protected from industrial intrusion. intrusion. In November 1982 Eldorado announced its intentions intentions to de-commission the Port Granby and Welcome sites beginning in 1986, as directed by the Atomic Energy Control Board. Hakes own life and life of son 1 A 35 year old Scarborough man ordered out of his wife's Oshawa home on Thursday returned on Friday night with a gun shooting and killing his 8-year old son and wounding his former iwife and 'other son. Sydney Jacobs then rushed out of the Town house and drove off in a General Motors car. Then a few blocks frttm the hduse and in the middle of Simcoe Street north shot himself in the head. All four were rushed to Oshawa General Hospital where Jacobs and his son were pronounced dead. Jacobs had threatened the family the day before the shooting and had been charged charged by Durham Regional with threatening his family ând was to appear in court on June 24th on the charge. Two midgets picked by OHL teams Shawn Shalla and Kevin Macintosh of the Port Hope Kinsmen Midget All-Ontario Championship-team have ben picked by Ontario Hockey League teams in the recent draft. Wins Labatt's Can-Am race Jacques Villeneuve of Quebec is the second Canadian to win a Can-Am race over the sixteen sixteen years it has been held in Canada. Villeneuve drove to victory at Mosport on Sunday finishing one lap and 27.5 seconds ahead of his closest rival, Jim Crawford of England. Villeneuve started in pole position and lead throughout being one lap and some 66 seconds ahead of the field of 17 cars at the midway point. Villeneuve is a brother of Gilles Villeneuve who has raced at Mosport and was killed in an accident at the Belgian Grand Prix in 1982. Jacques hopes to make it to the Formula One circuit, as did his brother. Extend restraint, program Gary Hcrrema, chairman of the Region of Durham has come out in support of the continuation of the province restraint program for another year.
