By (he Pines Reporters As the school year rolls to . an end, students start, to 1 retriember some past experiences experiences and events that have made this school year memorable. Some of this year's most memorable .events were the Ottawa trip, the Camp Tawingo trip, .sports activities and Music Night but perhaps the most memorable event will be the upcoming Graduation and awards ceremonies. The Graduation ceremonies will be held at Clarke High School on June 27, 1983 at 7:00 p.m. Each successful grade eight student will receive a diploma for their hard work throughout the. year. All parents and relatives are welcome to attend. After the Graduation ceremony there , will be a dance for the students at The Pines. A fundamental part of the graduation ceremony is the awards ceremony. Both grade . sevens and grade eights are eligible for awards. Each year The Pines distributes tabs for special extra-curricular activities activities to students who were involved in them throughout the year. Some activities which earn labs are band, choir, school teams, winning hoifse league teams, teacher's helpers, salesmanship, 'science fair winners and newspaper reporters. A special academic award is granted to grade seven and eight students who are in the top 10 percent of their class. ■Both grade seven and eight students -who receive a minimum ' of 5 academic awards and 3 activities awards arq eligible for the , prestigious Proficiency award. • When a student receives a Proficiency award in both grade seven and grade eight they are awarded a Pines School Crest. The Pines award ceremony is one , of the best award ceremonies in all of the Nothumberland and Newcastle Board of Education. We are sure that the students who have earned awards appreciate the acknowledgement of their hard work and energy. Baseball is a really big hit at The Pines. It seems everyone is getting out on the fields. Not only are we playing as school teams but we are participating participating during noon hour as well as during our Physical Education classes. Again this year we have two baseball school teams. Both a boys' team as well as a .girls'. Our teachers, Mr. Staples and Mr. Hansen are looking after the boys' team while Mr. Prole and Mr. Smith are' .in charge of the girls' ttbam. On June 15th, 1983 both of our baseball teams went to Bowmanville to test their skill against the other senior Public School teams. Both teams played very well with the boys showing great enthusiasm towards the sport and the girls placing first and winning the championship. championship. We are sure that both teams enjoyed the tfirill of competition. As the year draws to an end students pause to remember events and activities that have occurred during the year. Grade eight students will be leaving The Pines with both fun and sad memories that they will cherish for the rest of their lives. Good luck to all .'and have a good summer!
