The Orono No. 2 in i Novice and the Orono No. 2 in Bantam still have a chance I to make the tournament hav- ing games to play this week to ! decide their final positions in ! their specific leagues. If these ;S two teams should be suc cessful in their bid for the tournament it would then be that six of the seven Orono teams would be playing in tournaments this Saturday. The Orono No. 1 in the Novice "B" Division will be playing in. Tyrone. , The Orono No. 1 and No. 2, teams in the Pee Wee Division Division will be playing at the Orono Fair Grounds diamond diamond while the Orono No. 1 Bantam team plays at the Orono Park diamond The first game in each tournament starts at 9:00 a.m. with the second game in each series starting at 11:30 a.m. and the third game at 1:00 p.m. The Grand Championship games for the Novice Division Division and the Pee Wee Division are to start at 4:00 p.m. Kendal Eagles down Oakville in first playoff feature by 9-6 The Kendal Eagles took their first step on Sunday to advance to the All-Ontqrio Championship tournament to be held on the weekend of September 3rd. The Eagles played Oakville Seniors id Oakville last Sunday Sunday afternoon returning home with a 9-6 first game victory in the best two out of three game series. The second game of the series will be played in the Kendal Park this coming Saturday starting t at 1:00 p.m. and with the second game, if necessary, being played as a double header commencing at 4:00 p.m. On Sunday Keith Powell was the winning pitcher for the Eagles with Bill Bickle assisting in relief. , Murray O'Brien topped the long hitters of the game with a home run while two hits each went to Steve West, Kirk Woodward, John Robinson and Dennis Knapp. Single hits went to Bill Robinson, Robinson, Dwight Woodward and Guy Parks. The Kendal Eagles headed the local league after the summer's summer's play and recently earned earned the right to advance to the present series in winning a round robins series with Ajax and Peterborough. The winner of the series with Oakville plays in the Championship tournament being held in Wyoming. Orono Bantams take double header, move up in playoffs The Orono Bantam Baseball team entered its first, Ontario playdowns series ■ over the past weekend and in a three game series with Langton were the winners, 2-1 in games. The final two games of the series were played in the Orono Park on Sunday with the decision being a close one. in the final game with Orono taking the game 9-7. Due to the victory javer Langton the Ofono Bantam team will progress progress a further step in the Ontario Ontario playdowns. Word has not as yet been received as to their next opponent. The best two out of three game series started in i Langton on Saturday .where Orono w.as defeated 13-11 in what turned out to be a see- : saw battle throughout. Sunday a double header i was planned for the Orono 1 Park diamond and bolstered by the home diamond, sup portive local fans and some good sound ball the Orono Club won both games giving theyi the series. The first game Sunday was a 15-3 victory for Orono which was really won in the first few innings of the game and then protected by sound fielding and consistant pitching pitching from the Orono# mound. Èrad Roberts, playing playing second base, pulled down a line drive in the top of the fifth and executed a double play to retire any threat from Langton. Randy Reid on the Orono mound look three strike outs in the sixth which again protected the Orono edge. Langton , gained thgir only hit iii the final seventh inning. In the second game on Sunday, Langton, a good hitting hitting team, ran-up three runs before Orono started but by the end of the fourth the score was tied at 5-5, I The Tykes are still missing | several players away on vaca- I tion but continued in their I winning ways with a 7-2 vic- 1 lory away to Bowman ville I United. The score was never I in doubt as Orono attacked Î from the opening kick-off. We dominated the play in both the first and second half of the game and due to the fine team effort there was .good passing with lots of shots on goal. Scoring for Orono was Alan Hall, Roger Yates, and Ken Bailey each getting one and Brian Millson putting in two while Jeff Vanhaverbeke got a hat trick. August 11/83. Orono came up agajnsl the Kcadron Park team and came away with a 2-0 victory. It rained throughout the game but it did not dampen the effort effort our team pul forth. Orono played a good offensive offensive game with most of it be-' ing played in Keadron's end. Jeff Vanhaverbeke and Ken Bailey each scored a. goal for Orono-. "WAY TO GO TEAM". August 16/83 Orono visited the Wood- view Park team in Oshawa and came home with a 2-2 tie. We dominated most of the game but we just couldn't get as many shots on goal as we would have liked. When it was needed the Orono defense was there to help turn the opposition away. Alan Hall and Brian Millson scored a goal each for Orono. Rightwingers David Burnett and Grant Tomkins are settling into that position and will provide many worries for future opponents. opponents.
