The club has met five times during the term of the course in which they have become familiar with tractor and farm machinery operation operation and maintenance. On Saturday the members were given an identification test, à quiz on safety rules and took part in a tractor rodeo through a prescribed course at the fairgrounds. Leaders for the course were Bill Tamblyn, Orono and Tom Barrie, Bowman ville. Frustrated! Ann Landers California, U.S.A. ZIP ZIP. Dear Ann:- It is with great hesitation I . write this letter but my * frustration is becoming unbearable so I turn to the %■ professional in domestic af* fairs. 1 The simple fact is my wife ' and I cannot agree on just how.the grass should be cut at home. 4 This may sound ridiculous but then such relationships relationships generally are. I suppose suppose you could say we are both strong-willed and have : definite views on how things should be undertaken . and completed. This is the case with grass cutting. You should understand 1 that Donna does enjoy cutting cutting and trimming the lawns at home and does do most of this type of work wjth the few exceptions when I will take a turn at the job. To make things easier 'generous Roy' even purchased a light-weight electric mower this year in appreciation appreciation of what his wife does do around the yard. But when I do give a hand in cutting the frustration begins and this goes back a number of years. The old mower we had had six settings for the height of grass to be cut. My wife insisted insisted on the number one setting setting while I preferred setting number four. It is her contention that the lower the cut the less one has to cut the grass and further it gives a smoother looking lawn, neat and trim. It is my contention that the short cut leaves the lawn looking brown for a lengthy period of time and not a plush green and as well helps to destroy the root system of the grass plants. I guess I can live with this if my wife does the cutting bu( when I put my hand to the mower set at number one cut The aggravation starts and it not very long before I come to a fast boil. • Every few steps I take one wheel will drop into a small pothole in the lawn and 'psst' grey dust spurts out the grass discharge channel , . . 'psst' another spraying of dust to be repeated time after time or at least to the time my temper gets the best of me and I quit the job which generally is never more than one or two swashes of the lawn, j • 1 must say here that even the ants were up in arms over the fact they could not keep their doorways open. They resolved the problem however by designing and constructing inverted ant hills and the 'dewies' have left for a safe domain to our neighbours with, of course, the robins following their main food supply. We have compromised on this and my wife now agrees to heighten the cut by one notch to number two setting while I have dropped two notches from the number four slot. There has been peace out on the lawn over the past year with the ants going about their busy schedules and the dewies - infact returning in some few numbers. Even I could cut grass without getting getting totally upset or at least LOWER TEMPERATURE In any home with young children or infirm elderly people, people, the water temperature should be set no higher than 49 degrees Celsius ( 120 degrees Fahrenheit). That will provide water hot enough for household household needs but no hot enough to burn before there is time to react. that was the case until last Friday. It was then I put my hand to the mower to give some relief. in the lawn chore especially with the humid weather conditions that existed. existed. The mower had been preset for me at the number two slot so I had no problems , there. But after a couple of ■ swaths I was stopped and told k to discharge the cut grass into thé area I was about to cut. This makes no sense to me at all other than the fact on the last swath I would place all the grass I had cut under the hedge. 'Ann - it took me twice as long to cut the blasted grass and it was all the electric motor could do to push the cut grass through the mower let lone cut a new swath. Anyways I completed the small section left but I would like to know just who is right. * Please could I have your answer before the snow flies. Yours truly Roy Forrester, Orono, Ontario LOB 1M0 P.S.-If you do know the firm that has that new grass-that, grows only two inches in height I would appreciate receiving such information » along with the address. If such grass seed can be obtained obtained I would set the mower at number one setting, kill all the existing grass and sow the new seed to eliminate ( any frustrations in the future. 1 await your reply. QUICK BURN Hot water bums can occur quickly. It takes only six seconds for water at 60 degrees Celsius (140 degrees Fahrenheit) Fahrenheit) to produce a third degree burn. Water at 54 degrees Celsius (130 degrees Fahrenheit) Fahrenheit) can cause a third degree burn in 30 seconds.
