L1C3R9 623-1033 The Orono Public School was visited by the Durham County Dairy Princess, Krista McHolm of Port Hope and her co-ordinator Mrs. Shellèy All in, last Wednesday morning. The students were presented with a slide show pertaining to dairy products and the industry. The Diary Princess and her co-ordinator are visiting all schools in the area. ' Miss McHolm was crowned crowned Dairy Princess at the recent recent Orono Fall Fair! From the Dim and Student Council Distant Past elections at Pines October 28, 1937 The Directors of Durham Central Agricultural Society met in the Orono Armouries to discuss the remodelling of the fair grounds. The plan to improve the grounds, proposed proposed by Meredith Linton, included included enlargement of the race track to almost half a mile, culverts and railing around the track, a larger grandstand, cattle ties, a new entrance on Park Street and trees will be planted to add beauty. Mr. and Mrs. Charles Stapleton received a large number of gifts from their friends at their home in- the form of a shower. Parcels were piled high on a large table, and Misses Lois Wood, Enid Cobbledick and Kathleen Stark fielped unwrap unwrap the gifts for the bride and groom. One hurydred boys and girls enjoyed a Halloween party this week at the Young Peoples Society in the Park Street United Church where many different costumes were present. Prizes were given out to children having' the best comical costumés.;,, Lois Wood as a groom, and Neil Wood as an old woman. The best character was Kathleen Stark as a gypsy lady, and F. Tamblyn as a Chinaman. Mr. Frank Brown while working on the bridge near the Forestry dropped a large stone on his foot and is laid up. . . Mr. and Mrs. Charles Shaw of Orono had a son on Sunday, October 17, 1937. Mr. Percy Lunn has rented his house to Henry Cornish which he purchased from the Price Estate. October 23, 1958 On Saturday the first organized "bee" was held at the Orono Arena where some 250 square feet of cement was laid. There, was close to twenty twenty people at the bee which 1 started at nine and ended at 4:30. ; The Orono Scout troup is ito form some time in the near future, if enough boys show interest. Mr. Bob Johnson , arid Mr. Less Asletl of Orono have agreed to take over the' leadership. Eight entrants representing this area for the Durham 4-H Club.attended a competition at the Ontario Agricultural College, Guelph. Ronald and Donald Welsh of Bowman- ville were awarded with second second place out .of 55 entrants. In the Grain Club,* Bill Tamblyn, Orono, and Lome Tink, Hampton placed fifth in a class of 4(). A meeting of the Durham District. High School Board met at Millbrook High School. The Board moved to send a delegation to the Department of Education in regards to either building or adding to the Millbrook School. On Friday of last week, the students of The Pines had an assembly dealing with the MS Readathon. Ms is the short form for Multiple Sclerosis, a disease which attacks people from the age of 15 to 50. Students are to be sponsored for the number oPbooks they can read in the next 3 weeks. All funds raised will go to further M.S. research. Student Council elections are the talk of the hallways this week. In particular, there has been mention of a 'certain' teacher in a red suit, yelling "Tutti- frutti, Tutti-frutti", during skit night. One student's comments were "The food was great! Thé weather \yas super!
