anta a big hit at Orono Showcase Orono Weekly Times, Wednesday, November 23, 1983-5 Scott Sawyer of Orono had a lot to say to Santa last Saturday at the Orono Showcase in the Orono Armouries building. Santa was at ■ the Showcase oh Friday, I.O.O.F. PeeWees strong with two of three wins The I.O.O.F. Peewees had a busy weekend, playing three games in three days. They came on strong, winning winning two out of three. On Friday, November 18th, the Peewees took on Otonabee in Orono. They lost this game 3-1. Otonabee opened the scoring with a goal from Jason Conron unassisted. In the second period Otonabee scored again with a goal from Kirk Johnson assisted by Jason Conron and Greg Thompson. Thompson. Otonabee's last goal came in the third from Jason Nelson with assists going to Joe Braithwaite. Orono's Jason Burnham scored our only goal in the third with assists going to Craig Hyland and Brent Stapleton. , On Saturday, November 19th, we travelled to Millbrook. Orono won this game 4-3, Orono's Brent Stapleton scored the first goal assisted by Craig Hyland and Andy Rorabeck. Millbrook tied it up in the first when Ryan Challice scored from a pass by Jamie McCoy. There were no goals in the second, but in the third Orono scored three consecutive goals and Millbrook came back with .two. Brent Stapleton and Laurens Kaldeway both scored unassisted for Orono. The other goal was scored by Trevot Bogdanow, assists going going to Laurens Kaldeway and Troy Young. Millbrook's goals were both scored by "Michael Newman. The first was assisted by Mark Sander- son and the second by Jason Kelly and Ryan Challice. On November 20th Orono travelled to Norwood winning winning a very close game 4-3. Orono scored the first gqal of the game. 'It was Brent Stapleton unassisted. Norwood Norwood came right back, scoring scoring two goals. The first was by Tim Rose assisted by Scott Wark and Rich Hefferman. Norwood's Eddie Walsh scored the second, an assist going to Chris Townshend. Orono came back within a goal when T.R. Pollitt scored, assisted by Robbie Nixon and Rob Wagenaar. But again Norwood scored. This time it was Eddie Walsh from Chris Townshend. Orono came alive in the second, second, scoring twice. T.R. Pollitt scored again with an assist going to Rob Wagenaar. The last goal was scored by Orono's Rob Wagenaar unassisted. The third period was scoreless. ,, fhe boys played exciting hockey and the whole team deserves credit for their hard work. Let's keep it up guys! The same two teams met again on November 6th in Ennismore. Two goals by Scott Williams assisted by Sean McKenzie, Andrew Taylor and Chad Vandam and a gbal by Jeff Devolin assisted by Kevin Roy and Jarret Prescott gave Orono a 3-1 lead by the end of the second second period. Greg Hooper blocked a lot of shots allowing allowing only two to get by him as Orono walked away with the 3-2 win. On November 18th En- nismore Green team came to Orono. Scott Hall playing in goal for Orono was not given ■ much help as the visiting team pumped in 3 goals in the first period. Orono, struggled back with one goal in the second second period when Scott Williams fired a shot from his knees, into the goal. Assisting was Jeff Devolin. In the third period Orono drew to within one goal when Jeff Devolin assisted by Chad Vandam' found the mark. Unfortunately Orono's slow start caught up with them as time ran out. Final score Ennismore Ennismore 3, Orono 2. Sunday, November 19th, Orono travelled to play the Ennismore White team. Orono continued to dominate this team as they blasted six goals into the Ennismore net. Scott Hall played a fine game in the Orono net stopping all but ,two shots. The game had fast skating, lots of passing and good team play. Orono scored- 29 seconds into the game as Jarret Prescott finished off a play started by Kevin Roy and Andrew Taylor. Ennismore scored 2 but Orono's Jamie Ball connected connected with assists to Kevin Roy and Jarret Prescott. Orono dominated the second and third period. Sean Winning Winning scored unassisted with a blast from the blueline. Scott Williams slapped a pass from Jarret Prescott and Sean Winning to make it 4-2. In the third period Sean McKenzie McKenzie got his first goal of the year assisted' by Scott Williams and Jamie Ball. The final goal was scored by Andrew Andrew Taylor assisted by Jarret Jarret Prescott and Kevin Roy. Chad Vandam, Shane Jones, Chris Simpson and Scott Hartwig all played very well in this game and like the rest of the team are improving with each garde. Orono 6, Ennismore White 2- From Around the Region Santa Pays Annual Visits Santa was a most popular guy over the past week-end with appearances in Orono and at Santa parades in Bowmanville and Oshawa. It has been estimated that some 30;000 lined the parade routes in Bowmanville on Saturday while 60,000 have been estimated to view the Santa parade in Oshawa on Sunday. The United Way Reaches 80% The United Way last week had reached eighty percent of its goal of $1.595 million. Workers at GM have contributed contributed $800,000 to the fund while other groups are still lagging behind. Employees at the Town of Newcastle have doubled their objective.
