Orono 8 - Oshawa Minor Bruins 3 On Sunday, December 11th, the Stutts' Bantams came away with an 8-3 victory, victory, after being tied up most of the game blasted away for five unanswered goals in the last 2:44 of the game. The first period saw Scott McCullough open the scoring after only 0:05 seconds, assisted by Brad Roberts, only only to see the Bruins , Brian Moore tie the game at 1-1 only only two minutes later. In the second period Shawn Bailey put the local boys ahead 2-1 on a wicked blast from the point, assisted by Brian Hill and Darren Lewis. Although the boys had numerous chances they could not put any more by the host Oshawa goalie. The third period saw Oshawa strike for two quick goals to go aheâd 3-2. With 6:00 minutes left in the game Scott McCullough came up with his second of the game to tie the score at 3-3. Assisting on Scott's goal were Kevin Hartwig and Brent Hutton. Both teams kept pressing Only to be stopped by some excellent goaltending at both ends. With 2:44 left in the game the Orono club could do no wrong as the roof fell in on Oshawa, with the local boys coming up with five Unanswered goals. Orono Camsports tie two games In Orono last Friday it was a PA day for the school kids. That night against Millbrook the Camsport Atoms played like they were on vacation. Everyone slept through the first period, players, fans and referee's included. At 3:28 of the second period Orono's Scott Williams scored assisted by Shane Jones. Only 82 seconds later Millbrook fired a high hard shot from close in that Scott Hall, in net for Orono. didn't have a chance to stop. The local boys kept digging but didn't shoot enough on goal despite having many chances. • , Millbrook scored at 4:33 of the third period on a goal mouth scramble which seemed seemed to be stopped several times before the elusive p'uck squirted into the net. Trailing 2-1, Orono snapped out of their daydreaming and kept Millbrook in their own end for several minutes. It paid off with only 1:28 left on the clock, Jeff Devolin took, a pass from Sean McKenzie and Chad Vandam to tie the game. Orono kept applying pressure but quickly ran., out ' of time. Bowmanville Eagles to play in Orono The Bowmanville Junior "C" Eagles will be playing three of their home games in the Orono Arena the latter part of December and in the first week of the New Year. All are Wednesday night game starting at 7:30 p.m. with the first game on December 21 when the Eagles play Port Perry, on December 28th the Eagles face Cobourg and on January 4th face again the entry from Port Perry. There are a number of boys from the Orono Minor hockey system now playing with the Eagles this year. These include Bob Zuch in goal, Duane Major, captain of the team; Paul Reid assistant captain, Peter Krukkert, Ken Farrow Farrow and Matt Willis. The Eagles are now in first place in the league and two of the games to be played in Orono is with the second place team, the Port Perry entry. It should make for good hockey. Further the Eagles are unbeaten this year both in league and exhibition play. All the Orono players on the team, with the exception exception of Matt Willis, were members of the All Ontario Championship Midget team from Orono during the 1979-80 season. On December 28th all Opens ' 'Hair with Flare ' ' Monday night in Millbrook the same two teams played again. Orotio went on the attack attack early in the game as Jeff Devolin found the mark at 3:17 assisted by Jarret Prescott. It looked like . Orono was going to walk all over them but Millbrook's goalkeeper closed the door. Shane Jones, Greg Hooper, ■ Scott Hartwig and Chad Van- dam played well on defence, keeping the puck tied up in . Millbrook's end a lot of the ' time. Millbrook fought back early in the second period to Jie the game. Forwards Andrew Andrew Taylor, Sean McKenzie and Scott Williams passed the pqck well but failed to score oh many chances around the goal. Sean Winning, Jamie Ball and Chris Simpson were also frustrated by the Millbrook goalie. Scott Hall stopped mgny tough 1 shots .and covered up really well on close-in plays around the Orono goal. • The boys tried throughout the third period but the score remained ' Orono 1 Millbrook 1, the third tie of the season with these teams. Orono season record - 7 wins, 1 loss, 3 ties, Miss Shari Held has purchased purchased the business of Roots on the Main Street in Orono and takes over ownership as of December 15th. Miss Held has been employeed at the Orono location and opens her hairstyling business under the name . of "Hair with Flare". Miss Held, formerly of Port Hope, now-resides in Orono. Congratulations. Last week parents were able to come to the school for interviews concerning their children's progress. During the last two weeks of November we, at The Pines, had a new face in the hallways each morning. Mrs. Nathalie Kirby, a student teacher from Queen's University, University, was working in Mr. Staples' room. We hope she enjoyed her time at The Pines and we wish her the best of luck in finding her own class to teach. On December 2, the Grade .7 and Grade 8 girls' volleyball teams participated participated in a tournament at Courtice Secondary School. Both teams showed excellent skill and sportsmanship. The Grade 7 girls' tbam, with only one practice as a team, managed to place second overall and received the Silver Medallion. One week later, the Grade 7 and 8 boys' volleyball teams participated in a similar tournament held at Courtice Secondary School. Showing good skills and sportsmanship, the Grade 7 boys received the silver medallion, losing to Whitby Senior Public School in the championship game. The • Grade 8 boys, after an excellent excellent season, placed 4th in the tournament. T.R. McEwen Senior Public in Oshawa placed first while the silver medal went to Bowmanville Senior Public School. All team members from both the girls' and boys' teams should be commended for their fine performance as they represented The Pines in fine fashion.
