ORONO TYKES TEAM 2 week ending Dec, 11, 1983 We have had a quiet week, with the exception of two really thorough practice sessions. sessions. The boys are showing excellent signs of self- discipline and are making steady progress with their skating and stick handling drills. 1 find myself bubbling over with pride as I watch these young boys improve and develop not only physically but emotionally, being taught good sportsmanship sportsmanship as well as good hockey play and respect for the officials. Stutt's Bantams take big edge over Orono 6 - Ops 1 On Tuesday, December 6th, the Stutts' Bantams played host to Ops and came away with an impressive 6-1 victory. The local boys came out flying knowing that this same team had given them one of their two league losses when the two teams met earlier in the season. With lçss than two minutes gone in the game, Stuart "Irwin put the local boys ahead 1-0 with Ops in 6- assists going to Steven Lycett and Darren Dennis. With 6:05 left in the'period Steven Lycett upped the score to 2-0, with Stuart Irwin coming up with the assist. The second period saw Ops close the count to 2-1 on an unassisted effort by Jarret Williams on some sloppy defensing play by the Orono team, this was to be the only goal they would put by Jeff Martin.between the pipes for Orono, who again had the hot 1 game hand. With 2:44 left in the period Steven Lycett came up with his second goal to put • the local boys ahead 3-1 with assists going to Stuart Irwin and Kevin Mumford. In the third period the local boys turned up the pressure and totally outskated the Ops club and out scoring them 3-0,'to end the gamé Orono 6 - Ops 1. Scoring for Orono were: Robert Snoek, assisted by Brian Hill and Darrpn (Continued page 10) Tennant Fuellers win two tie again with Omemee team Both teams had their On Sunday afternoon the Fuelers visited a tough Millbrook squad and came away with a 2-0 win. Kevin made no mistakes with a low slap shot. 2ND GAME Orono and Omemee have a real rivalry going this year with 2 previous games ending up in ties. On Tuesday night, . guess what? Another tie, this time a 2-2 deadlock. Orono drew 1st blood when little David Sheridan stole the puck at the Omemee blueline and broke into the dear. It's a real treat to watch these two teams battle it out. 3RD GAME On Saturday night- Millbrook returned with fire in their eyes and played tough disciplined hockey. However Orono came out on the top end by a 4-2 margin. This was a real dog fight with Jason Brachvogel being the first to hit the score sheet late in the 1st period when he slapped in his own rebound. Early in the 2nd period Jason Major uncorked a shot from inside the blueline which was kicked out by the goalie. Brent Gates was Johnnie-on-the-spot^ and sunk the rebound into the top fight hand corner. Jason Brachvogel started the play with some tough digging in the corner. Late in the 2nd period Millbrook scored to make it 2-1 Orono. The 3rd period went Scoreless until the 6:06 mark when David Sheridan stole the puck from a Millbrook defenseman behind the net. Dave then relayed the pass to Cameron Esler who slid the puck under a sprawling Millbrooke goalie. Eighteen seconds later Millbrook closed closed the margin to 3-2 with a ' goal which eluded Shawn Hardy. Not to be denied Kevin Roberts received a nice pass from Dustin Reid • and banged his own rebound in to ■ make the final tally 4-2 Orono. Scott McAllister and goalie Shawn Hardy played solid games.
