6-Ororio Weekly Times, Wednesday, December 21, 1983 SPORTS Orono Novice team wins first home ice feature On December 17 Orono played, host to the Ops Novice Team and saw their first win on home ice this season with a 7-2 victory. Although in past games we went down to defeat, the boys put in more team effort Saturday and this was our best game to date. The leading scorer was Stephen Stadelmann with 4 goals and three assists, Stephen was really hot and showed some of his moves from last years playing. Good job Stephen! Other goals were from Jay Hansen, Paul Flintoff & Cameron Tompkins Tompkins putting in his very 1st goal and making it the winning winning goal. Great work Cam. Assists to these goals were Camercjn Tompkins, Paul Flintoff, Tim Hallowell, Stephen Stadelmann and Adam Wallace. We are still having problems problems with centers playing defense and defense playing forward; but in time we hope the boys will finally decide just where they are going to play and really put more effort effort into their games. If you fellas out there are reading this remember it's not just one person that wins a game its 14. Team effort, passing and skating hard will put you in the playoffs. Stutt's Bantams have 17th consecutive win on record Orono 4, Omemee 0 Monday, December 12th saw the Stutt's Bantams travel to Omemee on an extremely extremely foggy night. The game saw the boys firing firing on all cylinders as they outskated the opposition from face-off to the final buzzer and shutting the opposition opposition down completely as Jeff Martin came up with his second shut-out of the season over the Omemee club. Brad Roberts opened the scoring in the first period with Scott McCullough and Kevin Hartwig coming up with the assists. With 1.31" left in the period Scott McCullough McCullough upped the score to 2-0 with Kevin Hartwig. assisting. The second period saw both teams with scoring opportunities opportunities only to be stopped stopped cold with great goaltending goaltending at both ends of the arena. Scott McCullough opened up the third period with his second goal of the game to put the local boys ahead 3-0 with- Brent Hutton assisting. With 4^43 left in the,game Brad Roberts closed out the scoring with his second goal assisted by Scott McCullough and Kevin Hartwig. Special mention to the line of Scott, Kevin H and Brad for an excellent effort and to Jeff Martin for the shut-out. Orono 5 - Omemee 2 , Tuesday, December 13th the Stutt's Bantams played host to Omemee and saw a short-handed Omemee club with only seven skaters give the local boys all they could handle for two periods with only some hot goaltending by Jeff Martin keeping the local boys in the game. , The first period saw the local boys come up with two quick goals and then saw them go into a sleep as they thought the shorthanded Omemee club would be a cakewalk to take. Brian Hill opened the scoring scoring fqr Orono with assists going going to Robert Snoek and Der-' rin Lewis. Robert Snoek then made it 2-0 with assists to Brian Hill and Scott McCullough. McCullough. At this point the boys went into slumberland. With 4.45 left in the period* Omemee's Greg Seamons cut the margin to 2-1. The second period saw the Omemee club put on the pressure and only some sound goaltending by Jeff Martin kept Omemee from coming up with anymore goals. With 2.00 minutes left in the period Shawn Bailey put one in for the local boys assisted by Kevin Hartwig and Scott McCullough. The third period saw the boys come back to life as they outskated the opposition who were beginning to run out of gas. Robert Snoek came up with his second of the game assisted by Darren Lewis and Russell Sullivan to put Orono ahead 4-1. Omemee's Dan White cut the margin to 4-2 only to see Orono's Dareen Lewis put the game away two minutes later with assists to Brian Hill and David Bailey. /,f -Orono 6 - Manvers 1 Wednesday, December 14 saw the Stutt's Bantams t-ravel to Manvers with the local boys sticking to hockey and filling the net while the Manvers club wanted to play rough and as a result filled the penalty box. This being the local boys ■ fourth game in as many nights saw them come out flying flying with no effects from the heavy workload. They completely completely outskated the opposition opposition who tried to rough it up to slow-the game. The Stutt's Bantams had come to play hockey and with some fine refereeing the Manvers club fouild themselves in plenty of trouble all night long. Orono's Robert Snoek opened the scoring assisted by Brian Hill and Darren Lewis..With 0.04 seconds left in the period Manvers's Tim Stanley tied the game on an unassisted effort. The second and third period saw the locals dominate the game as they outscored the opposition by a 5-0 count. Scoring for Orono were: Stuart Irwin, Scott McCullough McCullough and a natural hat- trick by Brad Roberts. Assists went to Shawn Bailey, Scott McCullough, Brent Hutton, Kevin Mumford and David Bailey. Special mention to the whole team for sticking to playing excellent hockey. Keep it up boys. Orono 6 - Bowmanville 3 Saturday, December 17th saw Stutt's Bantams travel to Darlington Arena for an exhibition exhibition game and come away with a 6 to 3 victory over the Bowmanville Minor Toros. The first period saw the local boys come up with three unanswered goals to open up a quick 3-0 lead. Scoring for Orono were: Kevin .Hartwig 2, Darren Lewis with assists to Scott McCullough 2, and Kevin Mumford. The second period saw the local boys outscored 2-1 but still giving the local club a 4-2 after two periods. Scoring the lone Orono goal was Kevin Hartwig with his hat trick with the assist going to Scott McCullough, The third period saw Stutt's Bantams outscore Bowmanville Minor Toros by a 2-1 count to end the game 6-3 in favour of Orono. Scoring Scoring for Orono were: Darren Lewis with his second of the game assisted by Kevin Hart- ,wig and Scott McCullough and then Scott McCullough assisted by Kevin Hartwig. Again the local boys played some good aggressive hockey but stayed away from the penalty box. This may have, been a costly win as Russell Sullivan lost his footing and banged his knee into the boards being forced to miss the third period. Speedy recovery Russ, Orono 6 - Ops 2 Sunday, December 18 saw the Stutt's Bantams come up with their most impressive team effort of the year as with only eight skaters rang up their seventeenth consecutive win. Although short of manpower manpower due to Christmas commitments commitments and injuries the boys that showed up gave 150% and outskated the opposition opposition all night long. The first period saw Stuart Irwin open the scoring after less than two minutes of play with Kevin Hartwig assisting. Ten seconds ■ later Stu took the puck off of the Ops player deep in his end and drove one past a startled Ops goalie to give Orono a quick 2-0 lead on which they never looked back all night. With 1.08 left in the period Ops got one back to cut the margin to 2-1. The second period saw Orono's Kevin Hartwig take over as he came up with three in a row for a natural hat- trick to put the local boys ahead 5-1. Assisting on Kevin goals were: Steven Lycett, Scott McCullough, Kevin Mumford and Darren Lewis. Before the period was over Ops came up with two to cut the margin to 5-3. After a rest between periods the Orono boys came out flying and again ready to go. With 0.30 gone in the period Kevin Hartwig came up With his fourth goal of the night to up the score to 6-3v assisted by Scott McCullough. McCullough. Ops was to come up' with one more before the end of the period to end the game 6-4 in favour of Orono. Again the boys stuck to hockey taking only three minor penalties.
