4-Orono Weekly Times, Wednesday, January 8, 1986 O.M.H.A. Novice have up and down holiday The team played Millbrook on December 21 and, although they lost 4-1, came up with their best game of the season. Millbrook is a well balanced team with a super player in Murray Hogg. T(ie game was a closely played affair with scores of 2-1 and 3-1 at the end of periods one and two. The fourth goal çame in the last minute of the game. Previous games produced losses by six and seven goals so the boys really hustled in this one. Daryl Reid gave the fans high hopes by scoring on the first shot on goal after only 15 seconds. Jeff Hughes and Michael Landers got the assists unfortunately, Murray Hogg scored almost immediately to tie it up. His second goal was a fierce rising shot that entered the net just below the bar that made many of the fathers in the crowd jealous! The whole Orono team played exceptionally well but a special mention must go to our goalie, Chad Maartense, who even stopped the aforementioned M.H. on a clear breakaway with a fine save. Our next appearance was at a tournament in Omemee on December 27th and, although we brought home the "B" Championship, Championship, we didn't play very well. We lost the first game to the host team, the first time Omemee has beaten the team this year. Daryl Reid and Paul Woods scored, with assists going going to Drew Hansen, Jeff Hughes, Henry Kaldeway and Brandon Meadows. After losing 3-2, Havelock was our next opponent and here we came up short 4-2 again. Daryl scored, this time assisted by Michael Landers and Andrew Burton. Drew got the second second goal assisted by Michael Dreslinski and Ben Deremo. .Because of the format, we ended up in the "B" final and, this time, defeated Omemee 3-1 on goals by Ben, Daryl and Michael Landers. Assists were shared by Mark Foster, Aaron Staples, Michael Dreslinski, Paul Woods, Jamie Shelter and Brandon Meadows. Port Hope visited on January 4 and found the boys still sluggish with too much Christmas turkey - or something!! Port Hope was up 5-0 after five minutes and went on to win 11-1. Chad should sue his teammates for non-support! Michael Landers scored from Daryl Reid and Henry Kaldeway for our only bright spot in the game. We visited Manvers the next day, apd for two periods, continued our sluggish play of the day before. We entered the third down 1-0 but then, finally, clicked for four goals. Daryl got the learn started with assists going going to Michael Landers and Drew Hansen. Shortly afterwards, Paul Woods scored a nice goal after- being being set up by Henry Kaldeway and Brandon Meadows. Paul lobbed a backhander over Manvers goalie for his second of the day from a pass from Henry after Michael Dreslinski kept the puck in at the blue line. Aaron Staples closed the scoring out on a fine shot following nice work by Jamie Shetler and Mark Foster. The team owes Chad Maartense a big thank you for holding them in this game during the first two periods and for his patience patience during the Port Hope disaster!
