ORONO 6 - KEENE 4 ' Although we were short a couple of players due to fighting majors in the Trenton game Orono still came out victorious in this match to win the B Trophy. Orono struck fast with Matt Stephenson catching the top corner from Todd Gray's rebound. Brian Rodd set up the play. Midway through the period Jason Adey was the marksman when he fired one in from the point which deflected off a defenseman's sk^te and into the corner of the net. Brent Osmond set Jason up nicely to gather the assist. Blain Souch made in 3-0 Orono at the 4:48 mark when he received a nice pass from Jason Adey and flipped it over a sprawling goalie. ORONO 12 - WHITBY 8 On Sunday, December 29 the Matthews 1 and Hill Peewees travelled travelled to Whitby-Brooklin for an ex- , hibition game. - , This game was never ir- doubt with Orono taking command from the start. Due to a shortage of players we called upon Bradley Minnis, Jimmy Partner and Dustin Reid from the OMHA Atom team to help US out. The new boys all played extremely extremely well and had no trouble adjusting to the body checking. Dustin Reid was the big shooter for Orono with two goals and four assists, Jeff Hartwig tallied 3 goals, 1 assist, Todd Gray 3 goals and one assist, David Sheridan 1 goal and 2 assists, Brian Rodd 1 goal and 1 assist. Tyler Gibson had two goals, Brent Osmond helped with two assists while Jim Partner, Jason Major and Bradley Minnis added one assist each. After gaining a big lead in the first two periods Orono eased up the last stanza and Whitby found their legs and made a game of it. I'm sure the Whitby-Brooklin boys will be out for revenge next time. ORONO 6 - OSHAWA CDNS 3 On January 5, 1986 Orono continued continued their winning streak against the Little N.H.L. Canadians. This exhibition game was an exciting match with good end to end action. Orono seemed to develop a knack of scoring quickly lately and this game was no exception. Just one minute and 21 seconds into the match Blaine Souch drew first blood when he slid one into the far corner after Tyler Gibson circled behind the net and set him up. Blaine came right back 17 seconds later and fired a wrist shot which deflected in off a Montreal defenseman. Jason Adey and Brent Osmond started the play. Late in the second period David Sheridan made it a 3-0 game when he deflected Brent Osmond's slap shot into the top corner. Jason Adey did the bullwork to eàrn the other assist. David "Rubberman" Sheridan slapped in another one just seconds later with Blaine Souch and Jason Adey setting him up. The Montreal team made a game of it however in the third period with three unanswered - goals to close the mark to 4-3 Orono. However not to be denied the Matthew's and Hill crew dug in and went ahead 6-3 when Matt Stephenson Stephenson fired in two unanswered goals. Matt's first counter was a result of some, slick stickhandling before he found the glove-side with a har-d wrist shot. Todd Gray and Blaine Souch earned the assists on (he goal. Matt's second goal came after he blasted home defenseman Jason Major's rfebound. Mike Goodmurphy played one of his better games of the season. Billy "the Bird" Todd and Shawn "Chocolate Bar" Hardy shared the , netminding and were equal to' the ' task. Orono Novice team play well but lose two games The team visited Newcastle on Saturday, January 11th and while they played a strong game, came away on the short end of a 2-1 score. Newcastle took the lead in the first period with Orono tying it up shortly afterwards. Aaron Staples shot for goal and a Newcastle Newcastle defender deflected the puck past the goalie. The lesson here is to shoot on the net as often as possible, possible, it just might go in. Mark Foster and Michael Landers picked up the assists "on the goal. Newcastle scored again before the period ended. ended. Although there was no further scoring, the game provided lots of exciting play with the team performing performing well as a team. In some earlier games, the players seemed to think that each had to make the plays himself. Certainly, in this game, the passing plays that the coaches had taught in practices were tried and worked, of special mention are two or three rink-wide passes from Aaron Staples to Mark Foster that caught Mark in full flight as the Newca de defence napped. Later the same day the team hosted Bowmanville Selects and, again, performed well until tired legs caught up to them. The first period was scoreless which meant Chad Maartense and his defence, Michael Dreslinski, Ben Deremo, Andrew Burton and Michael Landers, had shut down two good teams for three consecutive periods. Well done, Lads! However, tiredness seemed to set in durirlg the second period and Bowmanville scored twice, both on defensive miscues. On one of the goals, three Bowmanville players broke in on our goalie unmolested. Aaron Staples I 3, one back before the game ei.s»ed, assisted by Jamie Shelter and Mark Foster,- but Bowmanville finished winning 4-1. Good performances were put in by Daryl Reid, Brandon Meadows, Orono Tykes looking forward to Ops feature Orono Tykes played their fourth game of the year at Blackstock on Saturday, January 11th.
