From the opening face off the Commodores started out flat, allowing Oakwood to keep the puck in the Orono end of the ice for the entire first eight minutes of the first period. Good positional play and saves by the Commodores', goalie, Jarrett Aus, kept the Oakwood team off the scoreboard. In the last minutes of the period the Commodores Commodores started to turn on some pressure and swing the tide in their direction. A tripping 'penalty to Oakwod with eight seconds remaining remaining in the period gavç the Commodores Commodores the chance they needed and the power play paid off with some hard work and digging in the corners when at the 0:33 mark of the second period, Chris Veo passed the puck to Ryan Rock in the face off circle and Ryan took a hard shot that deflected off an Oakwood player's skate into their net. The play continued up and down the ice with chances at both ends but good defensive play by the defensemen and back checking by the forwards'kept the oppositions' offensive opportunities down. This shaky 1-0 Commodore lead rerhained until the 2:38 matj< of the third period when Orono was playing playing short-handed and still forcing (.he play in the Oakwood end, Ryan Hock dug the puck out from behind the Oakwood net and fired a high bad angle shot that deflected off the Tri-County Midgets now in consolation bid' On February 17th the Orono Tri- County Midgets played at home against Little Britain in their playoff series. The game ended 2-0 for the Commodores Commodores and a 1-0 edge in the best of five game series. GAME TWO Game No. 2 for the Orono Commodore Commodore Atoms was another cliff- hanger that tied the series with Oakwood, one game each. Playing in Oakwood the opposition again put pressure on the Commodores early in the game and notched their first goal at the 1:08 mark of the first period. The goal came after Jarrett Aus had made the save on,a shot from the face off circle and went down to cover up the loose puck but Oakwood players kept digging for the puck and eventually poked it into the net. The game saw much end-to-end play through the rest of the first period and tÿlïbf the second period with some outstanding saves by the Commodore goalie and many close calls and the Oakwood net. A pass out from Chris Yeo to Greg Hooper in front of the net just grazed the Oakwood goal post and a pass to an open Dan Waiters in front again just missed the mark. The puck was just not bouncing for the Commodores Commodores this night. One of the most significant plays of the game came when Ryan Rock had a clear breakaway from centre ice, with the score still l-O, he was pulled down from behind by an Oakwood save. The defensive corps of the Commodores, Commodores, John Buttigieg, Shane Jones, Ryan Tomlinson and Neil. . Haines played a good game, thwarting thwarting many Oakwood drives. Game No. 3 was played in Oakwood on Monday, March 3rd and a full report will be given next week, ■ * (Continued page 5) ATTENTION!
