4-Orono Weekly Times, Wednesday, March 12, 1986 SPOR Tennant Fuel Atoms Manvers toumie finalists Tennant Fuel Atoms were. finalists at the Manvers hockey tournament on March 8th.' Orono won their first game against the host team by a score of 5-1. Orono took a 3-0 lead in the first period. Stephen Stadelmann Scored Orono's first goal at 1:08 unassisted. Bradley Minnis scored 26 seconds later on a blast, from the blue line, with Dustin Reid picking up the assist. With 2:31 on the clock Trevor Lomax scored with assists to Tyler Adey and Jim Partner. In the second period Orono took a 5-0 lead with goals by Dustin Reid assisted by Tyler Adey and Trevor Lomax, and Sean McKenzie scored assisted by Scott Williams and Scott McAllister. The only goal of the third period was scored with 1:28 left to play spoiling Chad Van Dam's hard fought for shutout bid. Todd Malcolm scored assisted by David Hughes and Jeff Vivian. Final score Orono 5 - 'Manvers 1. In the second game for Orono a tough Ops team went down to defeat by a score of 5-2. Orono led by a sctire of 1-0 at the end of the first period on an unassisted goal by Brent Gates with 11 seconds to play in the period. In the second period Ops tied it up at the 57 second mark . but Brent Gates again gave Orono the lead this time assisted by Stephen Stadelmann and Cameron Esler at 2:18. Craig Nemis ripped one from the blue line with assists to Scott McAllister and Scott Williams at 5:39 to make it 3-1. Less than a minute later ■ Brent Gates scored his hat trick goal assisted by Cameron Esler and Stephen Stadelmann. . In the third period at the 32 second second mark Ops made it 4-2. Ops fought hard but good goaltending and defensive work paid off for Orono. With 6:01 to play in the game Craig Nemis passed to Scott McAllister who set up Scott Williams for Orono's 5th goal. Final score Orono 5 - Ops 2. Orono vyas full of confidence heading into the 'A' Championship game against Woodville. There was no scoring in the first, period despite four or five good chances by each side. In the second period Woodville Woodville Scored to take a 1-0 lead at the 2:05 mark. Orono tried to come Holiday Juice Novice in battle with Millbrook Orono 3 - Millbrook I 0 Monday, March 3rd, the Holiday Juice Novice "B's" travelled to Millbrook for our ' first playoff game of this series against the Millbrook F entry. While the Orono parents sat in the stands chewing their fingernails speculating on the outcome of this game, the team takes to the ice» calm, cool and in control of the situation. This was Orono's game right from the face-off, they came • out skating hard and passing extremely extremely well. The Juicers pushed through the Millbrook defense giving giving Bryan Haines the opportunity to put us on the scoreboard, assisted by Jonathan Burnham and Jeff Goodnuirphy at 8:39 of the .'first*. Orono's Steven Sargent was je.ally hot between the pipes, aptly handling whatever the opposition put his way. At 1:51,of the second period Jeff Goodnuirphy put one past the Millbrook goalie, with Jonathan Burnham getting the assist. The Juicers held Millbrook mainly in their own end for the third period, so it was just a matter of time before they would strike again. With 1:59 left, Sommer West netted» one on a pass from Jason Lawrence and Richard Crozier giving giving Orono a 3-0 victory. An excellent excellent team effort was handed in by- David Crozier, Scott, Rapsberry, Brian Hogenhout, Simon Weagant and Owen Taylor. A super excellent. game team ! Orono 0 - Millbrook I 2 ' On Saturday, March 8 th, Millbrook I arrived in Orono for the second game of our round robin playoff series. The Holiday Novice "B's" were looking for a win on home ice, but just couldn't get themselves organized enough to pull it off. Millbrook got on the board in the second period and then notched another in the third to give -them a 2-0 victory. Our trusty goaltender pulled tiff a number of good saves or the score would have been higher than it was. Suffering', no ill effects from the loss, the team is eagerly planning their strategy for the next encounter with Millbrook 1. Let's go gel 'em team! Orono 3 - Millbrook I 2 Here it is Sunday, March 9th, and wc arc heading to Millbrook for the final game of our playoff series with the Millbrook I team. If we arc to advance on to the championship championship round we must win this game, therefore it is do or die tonight. Orono started out a bit slow but gained, their much needed momentum after getting on the scoreboard. Jeff Goodnuirphy did this honour at 3:59 ff the first, oil' the stick of Jonathan Burnham. The Holiday Juice "B's" went ahead by two at 8:45 of the second period when Jonathan Burnham picked up and capitalized on a pass from Simon Weagant and Jeff Goodmurphy. At 3:30 Jonathan Burnham assisted by Jeff Goodmurphy Goodmurphy added an insurance marker for the; Juicers. Atf 1:21, Millbrook picked up a tripping penalty but the visitors were not to have the man "advantage very , long, with 13 seconds remaining in the second period Owen Taylor picked up a hooking penalty. Steven Sargent came up with some real super saves helping the team to keep their 3-0 lead until F:34 of the third when Millbrook finally got on the board. With only 25 seconds remaining in the game the opposition struck once again, this time putting them in a position to tie it up. Millbrook pulled pulled their goalie but even their six attackers attackers didn't rattle the Orono team in the least, they still continued to push forward until the final buzzer sounded. That's the way to work together as a team. The Holiday Juiee "B's" now go on to play the winners of the second series which is Millbrook II. Good luck in the next series. . 1 Monday, March 10th, the Orono Holiday Juice Novice "B" is taking part in a Tournament in Omemec also on Wednesday, March 12th, *ve arc invited to attend a Novice Division Tournament in Millbrook. Come Out And Support Your Team OMHA Novice lose out to Oshawa Black Hawks back but their passing attack floundered badly. Adam Stephenson Stephenson on defense for Orono made some good clearing passes, as did others but nothing seemed to work. In the third period Orono tried dcsparately to gel a goal but it was Woodville who found the mark at 1:34. Orono failed to pick up a goal so they lost thegame 2-0 and finished finished as 'A' Champion Runner-ups. Back on Feb, 24th Orono played the Bowman ville Toros at Darlington Darlington Arena. Orono held the high flying Toros to a 1-0 lead at the end of the first period and trailed by 3-1 at the end of the second period. Orono's goal was scored by Jim Partner assisted by Dustin Reid. Orono picked up another goal in the third period by Tyler Adey assisted by Dustin Reid and Trcvor Lorriax. But by then the roof had caved in as Bowmanville scored nine goals to win the game by a score of 12-2. On Wednesday, February 26th Orono hosted their Newcastle neighbours. As. usual these two teams played a very close game. Sean McKenzie gave Orono an early 1-0 lead 1:51 with Dustin Reid getting getting the assist. There were no goals scored in the second period but goalie Chad Van Dam playing on . right wing for the first time this year The Oshawa Little N.H.L- Black Hawks visited Orono on March 8th and were lucky to win 3-2. The play was even during the first two periods and if Orono had taken advantage advantage of its chances it could easily have ended on top. But too many near misses found the team entering the third period down 2-0. Chad had several good chances. His replacement in goal Cameron Esler did an outstanding job. Early in the third period (1:56) Scott Williams flipped the puck-over the Newcastle goalie, Adam Rylance, to make 'it 2-0. Assists went to Scott McAllister and Sean McKenzie. With 6:00 minutes to play in the game the same three combined for Orono's 3rd goal. Scott Williams scored asssited by Scott McAllister and Sean McKenzie. Orono won the game by a score'of 3-0 with Cameron Esler getting the shutout for Orono-wjth a lot of good work by defensemen Bradley Minnis, Craig Nemis, Jim Partner and Adam Stephenson. Congratulations boys on your win. Maartense made some good saves in periods one and two and had no chance 'on the two goals. On the first, two Black Hawks broke in alone and on the second, a high shot to the corner beat him. The local boys broke out at the beginning beginning Of the third when, first, Aaron . Staples finished off a nice three way passing play by popping one past the goalie. Michael Landers anjd Michael Dreslinski assisted. Shortly afterwards, Mark Foster tied 'the score from Michael Landers and Aaron Staples. At this point it looked looked like the game would end up a 2-2 tie as. our depleted ranks were holding out thanks to good work from the likes of Henry Kaldeway, Brandon Meadows, Jeff Hughes, Andrew Burton and Jamie Shetler, who was filling in on defence for the first time this year. However, the Black Hawks scored in the last minute as Chad seemed to think the play was dead and a shot entered the net. Some good passing plays during the game made this one of the team's best games of the seajbn.
