t Reading and writing workshop Photo by Janette Desousa Orono Weekly Times, Wednesday, Âprii 23, 1986-3 Another hit for the Bowmanville Workshop The Bowmanville Drama Workshop in presenting The Dining Room for three performances last week-end provided another hit, for three consecutive full houses at the Bowmanville High School. The production was directed by Jean Sheridan having at her disposal an excellent cast eight members of the Workshop organization. The setting of course was that of a dining room and the presentation was a series of vignettes spaced over a considerable period of time taking into account those that lived in the house at a particular, period of time. The cast shifted their' acting expérience expérience from playing that of a child to next playing a grandparent, a mother, a lover, a frustrated husband husband or wife and thast of the mpid. The, play was demanding of the players who accepted the challenge providing great entertainment. The opportunity arose that each and every performer had the oppor- (Continued page 10) The Peterborough-Victoriq, Northumberland-Newcastle Roman Catholic Separate School Board held a reading and writing workshop for gifted students who were selected from the various Roman Catholic schools in the surrounding surrounding district known as the Lakeshore Area. The guest and leader of the 5-day workshop held at St. Francis of Assisi Separate School in Newcastle was Barbara ■ Greenwood author of a book about the McKenzie Rebellion entitled 'A Question of Loyalty*. This book is aimed at the teens between the ages of 11 - 13 who were involved in the program. The students were selected by the Resource Teachers for Gifted Students, Suzanne Skinner and Terry Marrocco. Students attended the workshop from Bowmanville, Newcastle, Cobourg, Grafton, From Around the Region Waste disposal systems start at $3.5 .million Northumerland County is looking looking at a number of alternatives for waste disposal and the price starts at $3 .$ million for landfill only and goes up to over $9 million for landfill, landfill, incineration and separation. The engineering firm of M.M. The selection was very difficult and they tried to select students who were interested interested in writing and reading. The workshop involves a fair amount of group discussion and the students are encouraged to learn from their peers and to relate constructive constructive criticisms of each others work. In the five days the students learned how to write a story from composing their thoughts through to the finished product complete with grammar corrections and illustrations illustrations to accompany their stories. All the stories wiii be put together into a book and each strident strident will receive a copy. To conclude the event a Story Reading Festival was held for the parents and trustees from the Board of Education. At this time the students presented their stories and ideas and showed what they had been taught in this informative event of which 70% was funded by the Ontario Arts Council.
