The decision was deferred • awaiting population figures for Bowmanville and the Courtice area which the proponents claim, will, support the need for such a shopp- ing centre in Bowmanville. The committee granted the delay' despite arguments from opponents who state Pythbow are encouraging an 'abusé of process' as it was only a year ago that the Municipal Board turned aside the application. Will review subsidized housing! in Durham Gary Hetjrema, chairman of the Region of' Durham, states the Region will review its part in subsidized subsidized housing following the completion completion of the 43-uryt Conant development in south Oshawa. He said the Conant development is the Region's pilot project in subsidized subsidized housing and according to its success such future proposals will be considered. The Region is also involved through the Durham Region Non- Profit Housing Corporation in a smaller development in Sunderland. Diane Hamre, president of the Corporation agreed that the Region must take a hard look at the development. She did say however that municipalities must continue to build public accommodation because the private sector wasn't doing the job. Hamre said "we don't have low cost housing". Minsiters check-out high-tech computer Bob Nixon, Ontario Treasurer, and Elinor Caplan, chairman of the Management Board, of the Peterson Peterson government for Ontario visited Oshawa last week to officially open the Technology Demonstration and Training Centre which is housed in the revenue building in downtown Oshawa. In referring to TDTC Nixon described computer technology as lying at the heart of the ministry and second only to human thought. Nixon said new ways must be found to do more with less and one of the the ways is through the intelligent use of computer technology. Caplin in speaking at the opening said the new centre would be a hands-on plan for all ministries to follow in the years to come. She said it was a must if they were to achieve the objectives outlined in the Throne speech. Magarrell said it was the aim of the CNIB to help each client achieve their dream and to maintain the quality of life for, people who find themselves visually impaired. $140.00 bill irks Hope Township councillor A bill for 5140.00 to Hope Tov/nship from the Northumberland Northumberland and Newcastle Board of Education has raised the ire of Hope Township councillor Dave Watson. The interest charge wds levied against Hope Township due to what the board administration have termed a late payment of the March payment. Wilson claims the payment should have been able to be made on March 31 but as it was Easter Monday the board offices , were closed. He further pointed out that Easter Monday is not a statuatory holiday and municipal offices are open on this particular day. The board states the act states that if the last day of the month is a board holiday that payment must be made by noon on the first preceding board business day.
