During the fifteen minute exercise exercise .the students weighed in 113.5 kilograms (250 lbs.) of dandelions. From Around the Region and area Wants part of health care budget The Durham Region District Health Council is hoping that Ontario Ontario will place some of the $850 million, promised in the budget for health care, will be coming to the Region of durham. ' The $850 million was promised to be spent in extra monies for* hospitals in the province. Specific deatils are to be announced within the next couple of weeks. The Durham Region Council has at the top of its list a $45 million redevelopment plan for Oshawa General Hospital for long term care beds which would include a 40-bed regional rehabilitation centre. Also included on the Durham list is a $80,000 diabetic education program program for Hospitals in Bowmanville, Whitby, Uxbridge and Port Perry. Such a program would promote self-care. Beer, wine sale proposal The proposal for the sale of beer ^nd wine in corner stores is receiving receiving a mixed reaction from area politicians in the east. Mayor Wyatt of ÿort Hope states •'the legislation gives the municipality sortie control but he opposes the sale,in the corner stores. Must win back the political centre-Grossman \ Larry Grossman,leader the Ontario Ontario Progressive Conservatives, has sated in Oshawa that his party must win back the political centre from the Liberls to win the next election. He has stated that most of the problems for the conservatives were centrally based. He stated the party must look at a new breed of candidate candidate that reflect changing times which would include women and multicultural groups. Would have Oshawa create buffer zone for Second Marsh The' Oshawa city planning and development committee has recom mended that city council make amendments to its zoning tiy-law to create a buffer zone between the Beaton Farm and the Second Marsh tp ensure protection for the 210-acre wetlands. The zone would be a minimum of 200 feet. The zone could include a small earth berm, storm drainage controls to stop rain water from running in to the marsh and flood and erosion controls. The suggestion also included included height control of buildings to lessen the impact on migratory birds.
