Dr. Clayton MacKay of the MacKay Animal Clinic in Whitby states that many people tend to forget that rabies is a deadly disease. He said the most important factor in preventing rabies is vaccination. vaccination. It was pointed out that there is a six month quarantine of any pet suspected of contacting a rabid animal if it has not been vaccinated. The time period if the pet has been vaccinated is three month in quarantine. Trillium Morgan Horse Farm holds Open Bam Board sign Teachers and On Sunday June 22nd the expanding expanding enterprise at Trilliutn Morgan Horse farm oh O'Chonski road west of Orono was on public display through the holding,of the fifth annual Open Barh. Kathy and Bob Sampson welcomed close to one hundred Morgan horse fans to the Open Barn viewing the pride of the farm along with a number of young foals. The Trillium Morgan Horse Farm was established at the Orono location in 1982 and presently is home for 19 Morgans. Plans are underway for further expansion in facilities at the farm. Kathy explains that her early interest interest in horses was kindled by her grandfather who cared for and drove horses on a milk route in Toronto. Her first horse was a Morgan. As to Bob he married into the Morgan horse interest. The Sampson are two of some ( ' owners and breeders of Morgan ntirses in Ontario and according to Kathy would place in second place in Ontario as to the number* in the breed. > It js pointed out that Trillium is basically a breeding operation and that a large portion of time is spent By the owners in training, showing and breed promotion. The record of performance of the Trillium Morgans in the show ring is exemplified by the results of 1985 when four Trillium horses brought home a total of 16 Champion- Reserve Champion titles with an average 54 percent of all placings within the top two for in-hand, western, english , and driving. All horses competing that year were either pinned Champion or Reserve Champion. Kathy Sampson states they breed to produce an intelligent, kind Morgan, bred to breed on and who has the quality to compete in the showring as well as being a loving companion. During the year the couple attend up to fourteen shows ranging from Perth in the east to Simcoe in the west and in these shows compete in all classes from driving, to western, english and in the Justin Morgan class which is a series of events fromt riding, driving, line and stone-boat The Northumberland and Newcastle Board of Education and the Secondary Teachers have both signed a collective agreement that increases salaries and benefits for the teachers by 4.17 percent. The average secondary teacher within the Northumberland and Newcastle system now are paid a salary of $40,000 annually. The salary grid effective from September 1,1986 to .August 31st, 1987 ranges from $24,050 to $48,120. . The new agreement sets a student-teacher ration of 15.5 to 1 for both the Septmber 1, 1986 to August 31, 1987 period as well as for the following year. This is one of the earliest set-" tlements accomplished between the ' board and the secondary teachers. drawing.
