The general purpose committee of the Town had recommended that the electrical system be replaced at a cost of $11,950.00 and that the contract be awarded to Kremco Limited. Schaeffer said he had been unaware that the Town was to replace the existing system and pointed out that he had been in the business of supplying snow melting system for the past nine years. He said he had been unable to finalize a price but had talked to the purchasing agent and the fire chief. He said he used a hot water system that had benefits over the electric system which after three or four years began to deteoriate and break down. He asked that council defer their final decision until such time as he could submit a price and promote his system. The Town over the past years has had considerable problem with the existing electric system and were about to replace the system again with another elecrical system. The recommendation to let the contract was referred back to staff to review other alternatives. Wheat harvest By John E. Finlay During the week qf July 21st, several farmers began harvesting white winter wheat. We have reports that a substantial amount of the crop has sprouted in southwestern Ontario and will be sold for feed for poultry and livestock. There is also a high incidence incidence of Head Blight caused by the pink , mold Fusarium Graminearunv This pink mold can produce the mycotoxin, vomitoxin, which renders the xylieat inedible for humans. * In the Durham area, we have not found head blight, or Sprouting to be a problem as yet, but humid weather and more rainfall will cause a problem. Farmers are encouraged to combine their wheat as quickly as possible, even if drying is necessary.
