Tennant Fuels Ltd. has been operating in the area for the past 13 years while Bob Stewart Heating has operated in Orono for a period; of six years. Activity in downtown Orono this week-end is to heighten especially on Saturday with the Great Pine Ridge Kinsmen and the Orono Downtown Business Association joining forces for a joint promotion. promotion. Many businesses will be holding a sidewalk sale to be augmented with entertainment in the afternoon for children through a free movie in the Orono Town Hall, the appearance of the BP rock group later in the afternoon and an Air Band competition. competition. The Kinsmen are holding their second second annual street dance in the evening complete with a barbeque of hot dogs, hamburgs and refreshments. The Kinsmen start serving at two in the afternoon being being located back of the Orono Town Hall. The dance is being held on Park Street from Main to Church street. Along with the hot dogs and the hamburger the Kinsmen will also have corn on the cob available. With a rumor that Eldorado Resources Ltd. of Port Hope is about to take up options on a possible possible five hundred acres of land in the eastern section of Clarke Township, Town of Newcastle, residents in the area are attending the regular meeting of the Port Granby Monitoring Committee on Wednesday Wednesday evening of this week being held in the Newcastle Community Hall. The rumor has it that tests have been undertaken on the lands and that closing is expected to occur on • Thursday of this week. In speaking with John Veldhufi, chairman of the Port Granby Monitoring committee, he said he would share with the residents steps which they could follow if such a rumor is correct and as well outline* steps that would have to be taken by Eldorado Resources. It does appear that Eldorado is to. have something in place by the end of the month as regards a request sometime ago by Robert Layton, the former federal Minister of State for NJines. Eldorado was requested to look for a second possible site for waste storage of low level radioactive radioactive material. A site at Wesleyville just ea'st of the Maryvale Camp grounds and south of'401 highway in Hope, Township is one sight under consideration as a* possible waste management - area. Eldorado has met with,the Town of Newcastle -council as to their waste disposal proposal which would make 1 use of storage in deep caverns in underlying rock formation formation which appears to be available at the Wesleyville site. Eldorado has also laid claim to the safe storage under such conditions. Commerce to build ne w bank Orono downtown Wayne Martin, Orono Branch Manager of the Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce, announced on Monday that his head office had notified him that a new bank building would be built in Orono expected to be open in the late spring spring or summer of 1987. Martin said tt^p bank has approved approved the expenditure and that revisions revisions to a former plan for the Orono building are to be made prior to calling for tenders. The building is to encompass 2200 square feet on the dite owned by the bank on the west side of Main Street in the southern portion of the Downtown area. The manager said that the new facilities will improve customer service service at the Orono branch and that he is looking forward to the open- , ing of the new building. The fate of the present building is not known at this time. The site Was purchased some years ago by the bank for the purpose qf a new building but due to the recession was stalled for a qurnber of years.
