Grass cutting which had been undertaken by the town department was on lands owned by the Ministry of Transportation and Communications. Holding the report' up Mayor Winters said it had taken 258 hours to clean up and cut one acre of grass at a cost of some $2580.00. "Can I apply for the job?"asked Counc, Hubbard. She said it was important that the work continue. The Mayor after some brief discussion said it had taken him seven months to get staff off their b'"*ts on the project. "We want to { roud of our town and we want building maintenance. I'm tired of our action and this is a clea^, direct message to staff, he said. Again holding up the report he ' said this is a disgrace, this is garbage. garbage. The Mayor said we want to give the taxpayers value for their tax dollars. In speaking to council members the Mayor said, "you people ran because you thought you could make change not continue with the same old baloney." "If we can't act responsible we shpuld get out, the election is over lets start working as a team," he*said. '.'The people and" I are tired of garbage and if you are not part of the team, 'ship out". Counc. Hamre said she thought it was important what he was saying but said in defense of staff they were following town policy she also suggested that the Mayor read the provincial report following their study in 1979 when the Town had a deficit of $600,000 which was created by not following Town policy. She said it is now stated the difference between today and 1979 is like comparing night to day. i Draw results at Clarke Museum The winning ticket in Clarke Township Museum's draw for $500.00 in groceries from Armstrong's Armstrong's LG.A. was picked out ■ Saturday evening at the Orono Fair by the Fair Queen and Board President, President, Howard Bradley. The winning winning number was 40 belonging to Mrs. Ellen Martin of Peterborough. The Martins were presented with the certificate for the groceries' Monday evening at the Museum. House fire damages Orono home A house fire on Thursday evening with the Orono Fire hall of the Town of Newcastle Fire Department Department being called at 8:16 p.m. caused caused an estimated $6,000 damage to the building along with $4,500 to the contents. The local fire department was called to the home of Mrs. Edith Tinline on the west side Mill Street. Fire was confined by the department department to one bedroom following a quick response from the local fire department. There was some water damage to a second bedroom along with some smoke damage. • tareless smoking has been determined determined the cause of the fire.
