Orono Weekly Times. Wednesday, September 17,1986-3 i Spotlight on skating | Orono Skating Club by Marilyn Ransberry Orono Figure Skating Club I would like to ask anyone who intends to register a skater for 1986-87 who missed out registration I dates to call our club president, Clayton Read at 983-5815. It is very important that all Canskate (which includes all beginners) and Can- figurskate skaters let us know, before our meeting with the professional professional staff who will teach these groups, that you will be skating. It is hard to rearrange groups at the last minute and valuable lesson time is lost in organizing. Thanks go to all parents and participants participants in the fair parade. We appreciate appreciate your efforts to advertise our club. Also thanks to our parent volunteers who sold tickets on the weekend at Harbour Castle at the fair. Please work hard to sell any tickets you have as this is a major fundraiser for our club. Ice fees are up this year so we will all have to work hard to keep our club going. The draw will take place at our November dance. Additional tickets' are available from Clayton Read or Shelley Allin. Any intermediate or senior skatfers who have not hired a pro yet should do so as soon, as possible. You can contact the pro directly or phone me at 983-9678 to obtain phone numbers, fees and qualifications. qualifications. Our pros are Beth Gatchell, Allyson Ednie Cowan and Stephanie Hood. Stan Hughes will be teaching group lessons and partnering partnering for senior dance. Congratulations to the following skaters who have tried and passed the following tests at summer, school. Kristen Hamel - Senior Bronze Foxtrot and Andrea Burnham Burnham - Novice Competitive. Junior Kindergarten arrives in Orono By Tina Bosak Orono Public School which was built in 1972, consisted of many open classrooms, surrounding the library which was located in the centre of the school. Prior to the opening of the school this September, Orono Public made a change in . (heir school by separating the senior classrooms. In speaking with Mr. Ed Taylor, Principal of Orono Public, asking why the change was made. "Basically the change was made* for more privacy and greater flex- ability," Mr. Taylor explained. "The change seems to accommodate accommodate more students more effectively."! effectively."! It was also stressed by Mr. Taylor that it was too early to know if the change will increase the students learning ability. Mr. Taylor seemed to be more than pleased with the new junior kindergarten class. Mr. Taylor explains, explains, "Both junior kindergarten and senior kindergarten classes are exposed to each other which helps them to function well together." Mr. Taylor also introduced a new program to train young girls in the school for secretarial work. Mr. Taylor is conducting the coarse. It is available to any -student in the school who may be interested. It seems like a very interesting program program that will be beneficial to a lot of the young ladies. Also, there is a reminder to all parents that Open House at Orono Public takes place on Wednesday, October 8th. Parents are encouraged encouraged to come out and see the new change. ©CORNISH I Orono, I Ontario SAVE AS MUCH AS 50% 1 Compare and Save with I NO NAME GENERIC 1 (YELLOW LABEL) PRODUCTS Sold Only at your local Red & White Store, in 1 this trading area. > EXAMPLE: No Name (High Quality Magic BAKING POWDER 4 BAKING POWDER 450 g . tin 1.65 . 450 g tin 3.55 A FEW OF THE MANY SA VINOS THIS WEEK-END Canada No. 1 Potatoes 10 lb.
