4-Qroiio Weekly Times, Wednesday, November 5, 1986 Orono Tykes topple Newcastle 5-4 in opener In the first game of the year and for some of their career, the Tykes came from behind to topple Newcastle 5-4. Led by veteran Scott. Macdonald with the first 3 goals the team rallied. Scott Sawyer, Devon Witheridge, Brett Maartense had many chances before Guy Tousig- nant tied the score and B. J. Hackett put in the winner. Chris Miimby picked up the most assists. Greg Bull played excellent in goal in front of the biggest crowd of the '86 season. Coach Sawyer, and assistants Witheridge, Hackett and Hodasen are looking for exciting games from their second year players and rookies Amy Jane McAllister, Grant Esler, Michael 'Hutton, Adam Van Dam, Stephen Foster, Stephen Wilson and Danny Macdonald, Tri-County Holiday Juice Novice take win Orono 5 - Manvers 1 The Orono Tri-County Novice playing under the sponsorship of Holiday Juice had their first scheduled game at home on Saturday, Saturday, November 1st., against Manvers. With over a month of skating drills and practice sessions under their belts they took to the ice looking for their first league win. Both teams started out pretty evenly matched until 5:03 of the first when Orono pulled ahead on an unassisted goal by Bryan Haines. With just one second left in the period Brian Hogenhout made it 2-0 for the Juicers (unassisted). Jonathan Noble received a slashing penalty at 6:24 of the second, second, but the Juicers went on shorthanded shorthanded to hold off the opposition. At 1:29 Orono struck again for the third time unassisted as Bryan Haines (alias Ralph) netted his second second of the game. Manvers put on some pressure and slid- one past our goaltender Steven Sargent ending his bid for a shutout at the 40 second second mark. Jonathan Noble redeemed himself by scoring unassisted at 8:57 of the third. To round out the scoring Bryan Haines got his third of the game, (giving him his hat trick) assisted by Marc David at 8:97. With only 2:58 left in the game Ryan Winning picked up a holding penalty . Turning in an excellent team effort effort were - Owen Taylor, Tomas Wakefield, Wade Peacock, David Swan, Danny Buttigieg, Amanda Haines and Jeff Gates. Great way to start out the season team! OMHA Novice A with a win and a loss The Orono O.M.H.A. Novice A team are already deep into .another exciting season with coach -Cord Burnham. With four games behind them it is very apparent we're in for a g real year of hockey. On October 18th Orono hosted their first game of the season against Newcastle. Orono played a strong game winning with a score of ■4-1. First period goal was scored by Jeff Hughes assisted by Jason Lawrence. In the second pçriod à great goal was scored again by Jeff Hughes assisted by Mark Foster. In the third period Orono scored two more goals both by Mark Foster assisted by Jeff Hughes, Drew Hansen and Simon Weagant, Clayton Rendell was in net sending Newcastle home with but one goal. On October 19 Orono travelled to Millbrook and came home with a 2-2 tie. Jason Lawrence and Jamie Shetler scored the goals for Orono. Clayton Rendell playing in net did a . terrific job holding the score to 2-2. On October 25 OtQno played Omemee at Orono. Omemee showed showed Orono the tough competitor we will be up against this season going home with, a 4-0 win. Orono had 'some good plays but that puck just wouldn't go in the net. Orono tried so hard to get a goal on the board that in the third period they got a 2 minute penalty for too many men on the ice. Good try Orono Novice A. October 26th Orono took to the road to Manvers. The first period Orono came on strong, quickly getting getting the first goal scored by Jamie Shetler assisted by Jason Lawrence. Manvers then came back slipping the puck by Clayton Rendell, playing playing in net. Orono kept plugging in the second and third periods but Manvers sent Orono on their way with a 3-1 loss. Orono Pee Wees drop two after opening win ' n 1 „ lunm. i, i teams even, with Dustin Reid fin- Orono 3 - Millbrook 3 After winning their first game of the season the Orono Matthews and Assoc. Peewees dropped the next two games against Bewdley and Manvers. However they played much better on Monday, Oct. 27th managing to tie up a visiting Millbrook! team at 3 apiece. The first period saw the two ding the mark dt 1:29 of the second. Jeff Hartwig started the play when he stopped the defenseman of the puck apd relayed it to Cameron • Esler. Cameron circled behind the net and relayed a nice pass to Dusty who fired it between the Millbrook • • goalie's legs. . Millbrook fought back withi a goal late in the period and one to Town sets direction Canada Post _ business hours for local Museums A recommendation from a joint meeting of members of council and representatives from the Clarke and Bowmanville Museum Boards was quickly passed on Monday by the General Purpose committee of the Town of Newcastle. A round table discussion on Friday Friday chaired by Councillor Cowman has setforth a direction for both the Museum boards and council. Counc. Hamre said she had spoken to Derek Barnett following the meeting and said he was well pleased with the outcome and that at last some action'had beén taken. Representatives from the Clarke and Bowmanville Museums along with the Chief Administrative Officer, Officer, L. Kotseff and appropriate Ministry authorities are to explore the possibility of having a centralized centralized facility for storage and display of the joint artifacts within the Town of Newcastle. Thé Kirby School and Silver Street house, Bowmanville, are to be retained as Interpretative Museums to be promoted as tourist attractions. The proposal is somewhat similar to that suggested by the Community Service Planning Committee over a year ago. The Clarke Museum has been awaiting some actioft and direction from council. The Museum had suggested that the facilities at Kirby be extended at a cost of some $200,000 of which amount $100,000 would be provided provided through federal and provincial grants, * Derek Barnett, chairman of the Clarke Board, has said with other grants available the cost to the Town would have been in the neighbourhood of. $45,000 which could have been spread over a period of three years. All greater Metro Toronto area postal ' stations will be closed and there will be no letter-carrier delivery On 'Remembrance Day', Tuesday, November 11, 1986. 'Special Delivery' services will be available for all 'Special Delivery' items, including Intelpost and Telepost. Stations with Saturday hours will also be open as usual on Saturday, November 8th. Customers who normally pick up their mail at post office lobby "lock-boxes" will be able to do so, where the boxes are accessible on a 24-hour basis. Priority Post Courier service will operate on Tuesday, November 11th. Regular postal service will resume in Canada Post Corporation's York Division on Wednesday, November 12, 1986. David Sheridan made it a 2-2 game when he popped in Andy Taylor's rebound after Tyler Gibson Gibson set the play up. Orono went ahead midway through the period when Tyler outraced the Millbrook goalie and flipped it into the open net. David Sheridan picked up the assist when he headmanned it to Tyler. Millbrook fought back gamely however and tied it up with just two .minutes and 13 seconds remaining in the game. Shawn Hardy played his strongest game of the year-and kept his team in the game with some sparkling saves. Jason Major and Jim Partner anchored anchored a strong defensive effort with Scott McAllister really digging in the corners.
