Pines Senior Report On Tuesday, October 21st, the long distance runners from The Pines went to a harrier meet 'at Trinity College; the runners, along with many others who signed up, had trained very diligently. Each was required to run 25 miles to qualify for the 5 mile run in Port Hope. The runners were: Heather * Carr who came in fourth, John Rogerson ninth, Mike Pièrce, Billy Todd, Jason McGill, Adam Boyd and Jim Partner. Congratulations to all runners and to the organizers of this event. Last week, the Milk Company adopted its new name - Pinecone Beverages, The employees 4 ÿare: Tami Osmond, Stephanie Clap- dorp, Nicole French, Pauline Cox, Lisa Tadworski, Alison Cochrane, Mark Pierce, Mike Pearce, Craig French and Keith Small. The Student Council put on a Hallowe'en Dance for the school. Many thanks for this fun event. Recently Mr. Smith organized the Remembrance Day Committee, which is responsible for arranging the Remembrance Day Assembly, promoting the idea of the Poppy and the history behind it. Members are: Mark Pierce, Brad Thompson, Nicole French, Andrea Trafford and Keith Small. Interim reports went home on Friday. Physical Education is now indoors, indoors, with Volleyball and Wrestling Wrestling the present units. Fluoride treatment will soon commence at The Pines for the students who wish it. Studies show that fluoride reduces cavities up to 32% in addition to whatever protection protection the student already has. It-is especially designed for discussion between students and their parents on the topic of 'Substance Abuse'. A major subject on things like street drug abuse, prescribed drug abuse, unemployment for people who have been in jail and much, much more. The speaker said the spread of contaminants from the ruptured Soviet reactor has rendered most of Scandinavia's reindeer unfit for human consumption. Sales, he said, have been banned throughout all of Europe. The journalist said it was doubt- • ful that the contaminants would decline to a permissable level for at least 20 years or more.
