The rezoning of the lands on the west side of Highway 115 at, the south entrance into Orono would allow for the development of nine building lots as well as include the existing lot. Tne recommendation carries the condition that the applicant can satisfy the Town that all lots will conform to the frontage and area requirements of a Residential Hamlet zone. > The planning department states that the proponent has stated that the conditions can be met with but a few minor modifications. . Council approval is expected when the Town is satisfied that the conditions are met. Happenings Concert series on stage Friday The second concert presented by the Newcastle and District Concert Series, Friday, November 21st, 7:30 p.m,, at the Newcastle Town Hail, features Michael Rusinek, clarinetist. This sixteen-year-old has already stirred tremendous enthusiasm enthusiasm for his poised and sensitive sensitive performances. An outstanding outstanding young artist and winner of several challenging awards, Michael is presently a scholarship student at the Royal Conservatory of Music in Toronto. In July he won first prize in the International Clarinet Society (Continued page 2) Lighting of Christmas Downtown November 27 The second annual "Lighting of Christmas" is to be undertaken by the Orono Downtown Business Association on Thursday evening, November 27th. Local businesses are to have their Christmas decorations in place by this date when in the early evening a Town Crier will call for the lighting of the decorations. To assist in the program of events school children and other Orono groups of children will present Christmas carols on the steps of the Orono Town Hall commencing at 6:30 p.m. Balloons will be presented to all the participants and hot chocolate and cookies will be served in the Town Hall. Another feature of the evening will be a ten percent discount being , offered by the downtown stores from the hour of 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. To conclude the evening a "Town Hall Music Night" is being offered along with the serving of squares, cookies, tea or coffee all for the price of $4.00 a person. Songs by Janette Desousa and Sheri Koenig will be offered along with piano selections by tan * Vandërshee and musical sounds from the Ofono Orchestra which may include a selection from the musical, "Cats". ' Evehts in Downtown Orono continue continue on November 29th and 30th with the visit of Santa at the Orono Showcase at Park and Church . Streets from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. As well free comic movies will be presented at the. Town Hall on November 29th, December 5th and 12th commencing at 1:15 p.m. On Saturday afternoon, December 5th Santa will again visit this time at the Orono Town Hall, courtesy of the Great Pine Ridge Kinmen's Club commencing at 2:00 p.m. During the period from December 4th to and including December 17th the "Twelve Days of Christmas" draws will be held of which everyone may participate. One draw each day will be conducted conducted for $20.00 in Orono "D.B.I.A. Bucks". Coupons will be available in all Orono Downtown stores with draws being held at the end of the business day. Town accepts demolition tender BowmanviHe Hall It has been recommended to council that the Town approve a' tender of $82,940.00 for the inside demolition of the former Bowman - ville Town Hall afyd the removal of the Cupola. Partak Limited, Cobourg, were the successful bidders for the work which is tp be completed late February. Partak was the Successful bidder of three bidders being Gerr Construction Construction Limited of BowmanviHe with a tender price of $105,000.00 and Ackerman, Excavating Limited of Newcastle with a price of $118,783.00. The new administration building which will retain the . existing BowmanviHe Town Hall with extensive extensive renovations ^n4 a new wing is to be completed in two stages. The first stage is the inside demolition of which work Partak will undertake and a second stage, the construction of the renovations and the new wing. > It was expected to call tenders for construction in February however Mayor John Winters bas suggested that council consider calling tenders early in Jarfuary. Applies for Amendment to allow new waste, site Regional Reclaimers of R.R. 1 Orono have made application for an Official Plan amendment to the Region of Durham in order to alldw a waste disposal site on 116 acres of land on property north-west of Newton ville. TO OPEN LEARNING RESOURCE CENTRE IN NEWCASTLE On Wednesday, November 26, board officials, administration, administration, school personnel and parents will gather to open the Learning Resource Centre at the Newcastle Public School Campus.
