■X Graduates Lyle and Marg West are pleased to announce the graduation of their daughter, Tammy-Joy from Christ For The Nations Bible Institute. Tammy has received her degree in Associate of Practical Theology. Letter to Editor To Marie Hooey: I wish to refute part of your letter to the editor of the November 12, 1986 edition of the Orono Weekly Times and would like to describe the horse-car accident mentioned, which happened October 30, 1986 as I feel you have wrongly accused me of being an irresponsible driver. I was travelling west on the Kirby Road at approximately 7:30-8:00 p.m. with my son and my friend,' when we saw a car travelling east flashing it's lights at us. We later learned he had just swerved W car to avoid hitting two horses which were on the road, barely missing them. I had my brakes dn when suddenly I sàw a horse, but it was too late. I consider myself an. experienced experienced driver with good reflexes and feel that any driver would have been pnable to avoid the collision, I was not speeding at the time of the accident nor was I towing a boat as I had my cartopper on top of the car. Both my car and boat were totalled. My son received cuts on his hands and whiplash. My friend received a bad cut on his hand and a bad bump on the back of his head. He was also badly shaken and your letter has added to his stress which he didn't need. Both of them were taken to the Bowmanville Hospital by ambulance. ' Please be advised that at the time of the accident there was no sign of your friends redirecting the horses back onto your property, there were no flares on the road and there were no people waving their arms. There was no one around except us ,and the man who tried to warn us. As a matter of fact it was my own flares that I placed on the road and it was myself and this man who were redirecting the traffic with flashlights until the police arrived. I feel an apology is iii order and woiild suggest the next time you write a damning letter to'the editor, get your facts straight or at least get a copy of the police report or talk with witnesses. , W.A. Cannings Letter to Editor Dear Sir: We have suffered the loss (at separate times) of two beautiful and loving Labrador Retrievers over thê past two years. There is absolutely no doubt in my mind that both were stolen. I'm also convinced they were stolen by a thief or thieves who knew exactly what they were doing. 1 would like to compile a list of suspected stolen dogs from this area over the past year or two. If you are. convinced that your dog was stolen then I would appreciate your taking the time to provide me with the following information: 1. Your name, address and telephone. 2. Description of the dog. 3. Location where it was fast. seen. 4. Approxmate date of disap- ; ' ?arance. v_„. Did your dog usually stay around home or did it tend to wander? 6. What steps did you take to try and find It? 7. Any other details you think might be helpful. For example you may have seen vehicles, or people, in your area at the time, or before, which possibly cause you to "look twice". , If I donlt hear from anyone then I'll try to convince myself that our community does not have a problem, problem, and my dogs simply vanished , into thin air. However, I'm very much afraid that we do have a problem, problem, the question is - just how big is it? W,R. Stewart R.R. 4, Bennett Rd. Bowmanville, Ont. L1C 3K5 623-7609 Letter to Editor Dear Sir: In 1983, the Committee of Clarke Constituents for the Environment, Inc., fought an application by Regional Reclaimers Ltd., to expand expand its landfill site in Concession 3 of Clarke Township. This expansion expansion was not granted then because of many concerns expressed by both private citizens and government agencies. We have no reason to believe that any of these concerns have been addressed addressed in Regional Reclaimers' current application for a landfill site of approximately 116 acres. We are now, as we were in 1983, opposed to this expansion, A landfill site of the proposed proportions will have a harmful effect on the immediate environment, on the water system between the site and Lake Ontario and on the surrounding roadways because of the greatly increased heavy truck traffic, In fact, in 1983, the Commissioner's Report No. 3-147 (Region of Durham) stated that if the expansion were granted it would result in large garbage trucks passing on either side of the site ever 1.8 minutes. We urge you to support the Committee Committee of Clarke Constituents stand against the present application by writing a letter, before DECEMBER 5, 1986 stating your objection to. this application by Regional Reclaimers to amend the Orono Weekly Times, Wednesday, November 26, 1986-3 Durham Regional Official Plan, File No. 86-77/D.
