Letter to the Editor Dear Mr. Editor, On December 15, 6:00 p.m. the 1st Orbno Beavers met for their annual annual Christmas Party. The leaders and beavers went for a tractor and hay wagon ride through Orono and visited the Senior Citizen's Lodge carolling. Upon returning to the party approximately 7:30 p.m. while waiting for Santa Claus to come, one of the leaders noticed that some of the gifts were missing from under the tree. In fact, there were only four gifts left from the total of 13. I can't figure out how someone could stoop this low while these 5-7 year-old boys were out providing enjoyment for our town. i Town consklprs $8,500 repairs Clarke Library (Continued from page 1) tarît. * He did state that the quality of the building was superb as are most buildings of the 1880s. She said that if they were to build a new library building it would not be built as the present „ Needless to say, the leaders had some awfully disappointed boys. We wonder what to expect next from members of our society. We would like to thank the gentlemen for providing the tractor and hayride for the boys' Christmas Party, and especially thank Santa Claus for his appearance. We are sorry that the boys party had to end on such a sad note. Anyone who knows anything about this incident please feel free to write Orono ■ Scouting, P!t>, Box 191, Orono, Ont. The municipal joint staffs have questioned financial forecasting of the Regional proposal and they state that the choice to recycle or not should rest with the local • municipalities. The municipalities would not have such an option under a Regional system. The municipal public works department did however Outline advantageous advantageous and disadvantages of" both system. The Town of Newcastle did however fall in line with Ajax and Pickering who have supported a Durham Region/Durham Recycling Centre Inc. program which would be directed by the Region and financed by the Region and the Municipalities. The Town of Whitby has rejected the Durham Region system and Oshawa has yet to made a final decision as has a number of local municipalities, These decisions are expected within the next few days. The Region of Durham/Durham Recycling will require new facilities for the Recycling Centre at a cost of $600,000. The Recycling Centre has been the mainstay of recycling in the region for the past number of years and the use of the service has been expanded to a number of areas including' including' pick-up points in Newcastle Villag^, Orono and Hampton. Counc. Hamre points out that the public tender process as subjected subjected by the Public works department department leaves the municipalities open to public tenders that at the beginning beginning are low-ball only to increase drastically at the next call. The councillor, also points out that the Region through the Region of Durham Act is responsible for waste disposal and this would include include waste for recycling. It is also felt that a -Regional system would be more uniform throughout the region than having individual municipalities take their > own form of a'fction. i Counc. Hamre further states that ' the cheapest way is, not always the best way. ' . Town staff are now opening discussion with the Region over the recycling issue on a Regional basis.
