4-Oroilo Weekly Times, Wednesday, January 28, 1987 Holiday Juice Novice 5-1 over Manvers team Orono 5 - Manvérs 1 The Holiday Juicers 'travelled to Manvers for a late afternoon game on Sunday, January 25/87. We got off to a slow start but soon pulled out of the slump and period was just as profitable, we added two more to make it 4-0. Manvers got on the board near the first of the third while the Juicers i notched number 5 near the end of the period. Having a four point game was Jonathan Noble with a hat trick and an assist. Ryan Winning had a goal and an assist while Scott MacDonald MacDonald came away with a goal. Getting assists were - Owen Taylor (2), Jeff Gates (1), Marc David (1), Wade Peacock (1) and David Swan (1). Lending a helping hand to the win was Danny Buttigieg, Brian Hogenhout, Tomas Wakefield and Amanda Haines. Steven Sargent had a good game in net for the Juicers having only one goal scored against him. Way to Go Team! Tennant Fuelers short in opening The Tennant Fuels OMHA atoms started the playoffs with a 6-6 tie at Newcastle and a loss to Millbrook before facing Port Perry on Thursday, Thursday, Jan. 22/87. Orono got off the mark quickly when 34 seconds into the game Jean-Paul Tousignant scored on passes from Trevor Lomax and Chris Yeo. Port Perry answered with three goals of their own to take a 3-1 lead early into the third period. Orono scored again to make it 3-2 when Stephen Shetler blasted a drive into the Port Perry net, Aaron Staples and Paul Flin- toff assisting. This would be Orono's last, goal as Port Perry came back with two more goals to finish the game 5-2 for Port Perry. For their next playoff game the Tennant Fuels atoms travelled to Omemee on Sunday, Jan. 25th. Omemee scored first at the 3:10 minute mark of the first period. Orono fought back to tie it in the second period when Jean-Paul playoffs Tousignant took a pass from Brandon Brandon Ovgnden behind the Omemee net and fired in the goal. Omemee scored three minutes later to again take the lead. Orono tied the game at the 3:45 minute mark of the third period on a shot by Ben Deremo set up by Stephen Stadelmann. The game ended a 2-2 tie. Ororio entered the Peterborough church league atom tournament this past weekend facing off against Campbellford in their first game and winning it 3-1. Scoring for the Tennant Fuel boys were, first, unassisted by Trevor Lomax, then Brandon Ovenden scored with assists to Henry Kaldeway and Michael Landers. The last goal was scored by Stephen Stadelmann from Paul Woods and Trevor Lomax. Orono lost the next two games 1-0 to Amherst and 7-0 to Listowel. M&A PeeWees complete busy week with 3 games The OMHA Orono Matthews & , Hill. Peewees completed a busy week in hockey preparatory to starting starting their playoffs. Cobourg 10 - Orono 5 In a make-up game on Sunday, January 11, in .Cobourg, Orono came out flat against an aggressive crew who ran up a'4 to 1 lead plus 12 penalty minutes before Orono got- going. Two quick goals 10 seconds apart by Boomer Taylor and Dustin Reid gave Orono a brief* hope. Cobourg then responded with four straight. Shawn Hardy continued to sparkle in goal with many scintillating saves, but the team was out shot and clearly outhustled. Jeff Hart wig and Dust in Reid , with excellent give and take, led # Orono"s scoring each with two goals and two assists. Jason Major added a pair of assists and Andy Taylor a sole goal. Orono 2 - Whitby/Brooklin 2 Still smarting from the previous night, Orono took on a well balanced, balanced, slightly smaller but faster team in this Monday exhibition. The big difference for Orono was a solid defense and timely hitting by rearguards Jim Partner, Brad Mitr nis, Jason Major and Craig Nentis. They cleared well and gave Shawn Hardy the protection he needed. Offensively, however, Orono missed several close-in oppor tunities. The visitors scored early but their speed was offset by 20 minutes in penalties. Andy Boomer •Taylor scored late in the second period with a patented blast from the deep slot into the top of the net. This tied the game at one apiece, assisted by Tyler Gibson. The visitors again slipped ahead one minute later. Orono picked up the tempo in the third.' Pressing on a power play, Jim Partner scored from the point, set up with fine passing from Brad Minnis and Scott McAllister. Further pursuit by Orono couldn't break the deadlock. Orono 7 - Little Britain 2 In the important game of the week, Orono came up big on Wednesday, January 15, in Little Britain. This was their first playoff game, and Oronp showed the concentration concentration and desire that makes them one of the most entertaining teams in the area. Though the first period was scoreless, it was worth the price of admission.- No team • dominated, but stellar defense, end- to-end action and solid backcheck- ing by Orono'set the pattern for the rest of the game. Both lines produced produced with Jeff Hartwig, Dustin Reid, Andy Taylor and Scott McAllister, Tyler Gibson and Cameron ESler. Ofono opened the scoring well into into the second with an. unassisted •drive by Andy Taylor from outside -the right circle. Two minutes later, Orono pressing and caught on a line Roughley Novice team enter playdown series change, saw Jeff Hartwig tuck away a goal mouth pass from Tyler Gibson Gibson in the corner. Little Britain responded 2P seconds later from a scramble to end the second period at Orono 2, Little Britain 1. The third period was all Orono. Three minutes into the period, Andy Andy Taylor drove a shot through the goalie's pads. Little Britain briefly came back to narrow the gap to 3-2, with a good end-to-end rush by their captain, Tyler Teel. Orono responded a minute later when Tyler Gibson batted in a mid-air puck from the crease, assisted by Cameron Eslcr. Orono again scored when from the corner, Tyler Gibson banked in a wrist shot off their defenseman. Now Orono had the momentum. Andy Taylor collected his hat trick with a blast from well out with two minutes remaining, assisted by Dustin Reid. In the dying seconds, Scott McAllister took a centring lead pass from Tyler Gibson at the blue line to break the defense and score into the lower left. A straw-vote from the bleachers chose the three stars: Scott McAllister for his ardent forechecking/Andy forechecking/Andy Taylor for his hat trick, and Shawn Hardy for excellent goaltending. Orono 2 - Thorton 1 On Saturday, January 18, Orono opened the Bobcaygeon Tournament Tournament with a spirited 2-1 win over Thorton. Showing the offensive hustle and concentration from Wednesday, Orono got a goal and an assist from Dustin Reid, a goal by Andy Taylor, and an assist by Craig Nemis to edge out Thornton. Solid defense was turned in by Jason Major, Jim Partner, Brad Minnis and Craig Nemis. Dustin Reid was voted the game MVP. Bewdley 6 - Orono 0 In their second game, Orono showed glimpses of the earlier effort effort 'against the League's powerhouse. With solid forechecking forechecking by both forward lines and excellent excellent bumping and quick clearing by the defense, Orono held Bewdley scoreless through the first period. Orono 1 - Newcastle 0 On January 17 playoff's began fo: Roughley's Novice A. The team was off to a good start winning against Newcastle 1-0. The game was well played by both teams with only one goal scored. Mark Foster assisted by Sommer West scored for Orono in the first period. The goalies of both teams worked hard making terrific, saves and Clayton Rendell in net for Orono added another shutout to . his goalie record. Orono 1 - Omemee 4 On January 20th Roughley's Novice A played their second playoff game against Omemee losing losing 4-1'. The only Orono goal scored was by Andrew Hansen assisted by Jeff Goodmurphy and .Simon Shawn Hardy was outstanding in goal. However, the bottom fell out for Orono in the second and third as Bewdley counted from their big three, while their goalie stoned our shooters. Weagant. This was a rare game as no penalties were called on either/ team? Orono 2 - Baltimore 0 January 24th Orono Roughley Novice A played their third playoff game against Baltimore. The team came up with a great win against a tough team winning 2-0. In the first pèriod Jason Lawrence assisted by Jamie Shetler scored for Orono. Mark Foster came.up with Orono's second goal unassisted in the second period. This game was a real pleasure to watch. The team passing the puck with great care and the team's defense was right on the mark. Once again it was another shutout for Orono's goalie Clayton Rendell.
