(Ehrono Weekly Stmts Second Class Mail Registration Number 000368 Published Every Wednesday at the office of Publication Main Street, Oronu Koy C. Forrester, Editor Has Gorbeehev seized an opportunity II would appear that Mikhail Gorbeehev has seized on ■the opportunity of a wavering administration in the United States to test not only (lie U.S, but also Western Europe as to his new peace initiative which lie announced over the weekend. weekend. He likely has pul everyone to the test. Already there appears to be a break-through on arms control with his offer of elimination of .medium-ranged missiles in Europe. Only time will tell as the U.S. proposal in the same field is about to be released. Its time we forgot about the good guy/bad guy syndrome syndrome when there is always some needed to hale. Its been cops and robbers, the 'characters in the comics and of late the U.S. had Vietnam and the Russians have Afghanistan. No doubt there are shadows on both sides. Canada does have its roll to play and should stand up to the U.S. who wish to break-the 1972 Ami-Ballistic Missile in order to proceed with their Star Wars proposal. It just seems at this time that the U.S.S.R. is putting the rest of the world to the lest and out of all this it just may be the time that some progress can be made in what has been most dismal over the past three to lour years. Kendal News An Irish Blessing May the road rise to meet you. May the wind be always at your back. May the sun shine warm on your face, and the rains fall soft on your fields, and until we meet again, may God hold you in the palm of his hand. March came in with rain (would you call that like a Iamb or like a lion?). One thing it did was help to lower the high banks along the road. We had no January or February thaw so all the snow stayed with us. Some families did not get to church because of thecondition of.their lanes. The choir sang. "He promised never to leave me. Never to leave me alone." It was Communion Sunday. The World Day of Prayer Service will be held in Kendal Church school on Friday, March 6th at 1:30 p.m. This is the hundredth year that it has been held around the world. White served the Newtonville Charge for eleven years. His funeral was held in Albert Street U..C. Oshawa on December I, 1986. He wrote his autobiography entitled: entitled: My Pilgrimage On June 21st 1892 a baby boy was born to Charles and Mariana White. They named the child Reginald Charles. 1 was born in Twillingate, Newfoundland. Newfoundland. In due time I attended the school taught by my father until I was fifteen. 1 then attended Twillingate Twillingate Methodist High School. An outstanding incident of my youth Is that at the age of élev.en I joined my school pal, Hardy Snow and went for a sea voyage on his father's sailing vessel. We wènt to St. John's with a cargo of dried cod fish and took on, a return cargo of store goods for the local merchants. The ship was engaged in the coastal trading business: She was built in Lunenburg - tonnage tonnage 99 and named Leslie L. On our return we encountered a "September Gale". Captain Snow decided to make for a harbour at the south end of Change Island and there ride out the storm. About midnight with the gale ever increasing increasing the main chain parted and the second anchor could not hold, so wè drifted out to sea. It was not long before we drifted on the shoai known as "Goose and Gander" anti-soon the bottom was torn out, the masts fell over the side. We were able to save a small boat, into which ten of us got and took,a chance of reaching the partly exposed rocks. We managed to get anchored and remained there for forty hours, after whict| we were able to make for the main shore. We reached Indian Indian Island and were glad to get dried off once more. Having passed matriculation, 1 left school and went to work with the local blacksmith, Edward Young. For swinging 7*to 14 lbs. sledgehammers I received 50 cents - for a ten hour day., At the end of the day I gave my mother 25 .cents to help pay for board, and lodging. After qbout two years I went to Campbelltown as a time keeper for the Hovward Construction Company Company who were engaged in building a dam, with the purpose of operating a pulp and paper mill which they never completed. Later having decided to enter as a Student Minister during my preparating studies 1 went as a school teacher to "Salt Pans". I remained remained there less than a year as I was offered the opportunity of a position as a Probationer (Student Minister) at Pacquet on the northeast northeast coast, north of Cape John. While there for a period of about two years, I did the duties of a student student minister, which meant I was the appointed Chairman of six local school boards, and was involved jn the work of* a minister, including funerals, marriages, baptisms and vyeddings, also administering the sacrament of the Lord's Supper and this at the age of twenty-one. The appointments on that charge wete, North East Pacquet; South West .Pacquet; Baie Verte; Hors ' Islands; Jackson's Arm Wild Cow I was next sent to King's Point an island charge in Norte Dame Bay, At this place I was in charge of the Churches at King's Point; Rattling Brqok; Harry's Harbour; Three Arms and Jackson's Cove. It was King's Point that I travelled on snow shoes across rugged country, with no roads, only a compass to • guide me. I went to Little Bay for the purpose of joining the Masonic Lodge.
