Supports pilot project for SVA assessment The Town of Newcastle has supported supported a request from the Peterborough Peterborough Site Value Assessment committee that the province undertake undertake a pilot study in Peterborough using Site Value Assessment to be compared with Market Value Assessment. The Peterborough committee jtates that the present system of Market Value assessment is unfair. They state that Site Value Assessment Assessment would place most of the cost on the site rather than on the buildings, This, they state would reduce the shortage of low cost housing,, uneven property taxation, and create jobs. In a letter to council the association association states it is their understanding ' that both the Bowmanville and Hampton arenas are presently booked to capacity and that hockey parents are frustrated in having to go to Newcastle Village for reasonable ice time. The letter was referred to the arena committee. Objects to apartments in Courtice subdivision A letterhas been received by the Tqwn of Newcastle from a group of residents in the Courtice area objecting objecting to the fact that neighbouring home owners are planning to develop apartments in their new homes. The letter points out that the homes were supposed to be single family dwellings but that some new owners are now preparing to development apartments in their semis. The letter has been referred to thé clerk and the director of planning for a report.
