INA HUGHES It was predicted at an information information meeting of the Christian Heritage Party of Canada that the ; ;ral riding of Durham- Northumberland would be the next Ontario riding to which the Party would form a riding association. An audience of some eighty people people at the Bowmanville High School last Wednesday evening were told ' that there was enough support in Durham-Northumberland to warrant warrant a Christian Heritage Party of Canada association for the riding. Those attending the meeting were welcomedTiy Jake tioekee, R.R. 1 Orono. However any party must have a membership of one hundred members and although some joined on Wednesday the figure of one hundred has yet to be reached. Membership in the. party costs $20.00 which is good for three years. The membership also receives a regular newsletter for the three year period. Jack Schoeman o.f .Toronto stated that there was a rapid growth for the party in Ontario and that 36 committees were now organized and working. He also said that within the next month the party hopes to be registered as a national party having organized fifty riding associations. He said there is now a full-time office in Ontario with the purpose to establish riding associations associations and that in less than a year a national leader had been chosen and that a huge army of workers were active. The main speaker for the evening was Ray Pennings, Ontario Organizing Committee president who said the Christian Heritage Party of Canada was a real alternative alternative which is gauged by £Quyj£- tions rather than pools. He said it was a Christian approach to politics. Penning spoke of the waste of time in irresponsible debate in the House of Commons and pointed to debate over the Meech Lake accord and the Wilson discussion paper. He said it was a waste of time to speculate on both issues at this time and that the Christian Heritage Party Party was awaiting further information and development before taking a stand. ""We "are Fed-up with the theatre of politics", he said. He said he found it appalling that 60,000 lives were lost through abortion. abortion. He said the Christian Heritage Party has a commitment to life. He said they were not bigoted when they mentioned Aids and homosexuals and said the only choice being provided by the government is - do it with condoms - and they are not even asking you your concerns. Pennings said the Christian Heritage Party of Canada was opposed to universal day care, opposed opposed to the recognition of homosexuals, and opposed to a lot of government control affecting the individual and hampering initiative. Penning said the results of the last federal election noted that people people wanted change. "What has changed?," he asked. "We need a Christian approach in politics," We need people to serve God and Country in the true sense of the word, he said. Penning said the Christian Heritage Party would raise the standard standard of living for all and build a party to see a heritage of freedom. . "We will ask not what your country can do for you but what you can do for your country". "Join us", he asked, "we need you and Canada needs us for the restoration of.the nation". It was pointed out at the meeting that the party believes in a strong, independent Canada with our armed armed forces being adequately supplied with personnel ■ and equipment.
